What steps can we take to rediscover and prioritize Scripture in our daily lives? Rediscovering the Lost Book “While they were bringing out the money that had been brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found the Book of the Law of the LORD given through Moses.” (2 Chronicles 34:14) Josiah’s revival began with a dusty scroll finally opened. Our own renewal starts the same way. Clear Away Spiritual Clutter • Remove known sin: confess and forsake (Psalm 66:18; 1 John 1:9). • Eliminate time wasters that crowd out Bible intake. • Designate a physical place that signals, “Here I meet God in His Word.” Schedule Scripture as a Non-Negotiable • Block daily time just as firmly as work or meals (Daniel 6:10). • Morning sets the tone (Mark 1:35); evening seals the day (Psalm 63:6). • Use reminders: phone alarms, calendar alerts, or sticky notes on the mirror. Read, Hear, Study, Memorize, Meditate • Read broadly to grasp context (1 Timothy 4:13). • Listen to audio Bibles while commuting (Romans 10:17). • Study deeply: outline a chapter, trace key words, compare passages (Acts 17:11). • Memorize verses that address current needs (Psalm 119:11). • Meditate—slow, thoughtful rehearsal until truth sinks in (Psalm 1:2; Joshua 1:8). Engage Your Whole Being • Mind: analyze and connect passages (Nehemiah 8:8). • Heart: respond with praise, confession, or thanksgiving (Luke 24:32). • Voice: read aloud; hearing reinforces retention (Revelation 1:3). • Body: posture of attentiveness—sitting up, kneeling, or walking while reciting. Do What It Says • Move from information to obedience (James 1:22). • Identify a clear action each day—encouragement to give, forgiveness to extend, habit to change. • Keep a journal of obediences; review progress monthly. Let the Word Dwell Richly in Community • Share insights with family at the table (Deuteronomy 6:6-9). • Join a Bible-saturated church and small group (Colossians 3:16). • Teach someone younger in the faith; teaching cements learning (2 Timothy 2:2). Guard and Preserve the Treasure • Store copies in multiple places—print, phone, tablet. • Back up digital notes. • Support Bible translation and distribution so others may also “find the Book.” Persist for Lifelong Renewal • Track streaks but show grace when you miss; pick up where you left off. • Celebrate milestones—finishing a book, memorizing a chapter. • Trust the Spirit to transform over time (2 Corinthians 3:18). Scripture once rediscovered in Josiah’s day overturned a nation’s trajectory. The same living Word, opened daily in our homes and hearts, still reforms, revives, and redirects every willing life. |
