How to remove ungodly "plants" in us?
How can we identify and remove "plants" not planted by God in us?

The Key Verse

“But He replied, ‘Every plant that My heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots.’” (Matthew 15:13)

Why the Warning Matters

• God plants only what is good, true, and life-giving (James 1:17).

• Anything He has not planted eventually faces His uprooting, so allowing such growth in our hearts is spiritually dangerous (John 15:2).

What Are These Unwanted Plants?

• False doctrines and half-truths (2 Timothy 4:3-4).

• Sinful habits—“works of the flesh” (Galatians 5:19-21).

• Rooted bitterness, unforgiveness, or envy (Hebrews 12:15; James 3:16).

• Worldly values opposing God’s wisdom (1 John 2:15-17).

Signs a Root Is Not from God

• It contradicts plain Scripture.

• It weakens love for Christ, prayer, or fellowship.

• It flourishes in secrecy and resists accountability (John 3:20-21).

• It produces fruit opposite the Spirit—anxiety instead of peace, pride instead of humility (Galatians 5:22-23).

Practical Steps to Uproot

1. Examine regularly with Scripture’s light

• “Your word is a lamp to my feet” (Psalm 119:105).

• Invite God’s search: “Search me, O God…see if any wicked way is in me” (Psalm 139:23-24).

2. Confess and renounce

• “Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and every expression of evil” (James 1:21).

• Name the plant, agree with God about its sinfulness, and turn from it (Proverbs 28:13; 1 John 1:9).

3. Apply the cross decisively

• Crucify the flesh with its passions (Galatians 5:24).

• Use spiritual weapons—truth, righteousness, faith—to demolish strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4-5; Ephesians 6:13-17).

4. Saturate the soil with truth

• Memorize and meditate on verses targeting the issue (Psalm 119:11).

• Replace lies with God’s promises; plant what He plants (Isaiah 55:10-11).

5. Lean on Spirit-filled community

• “Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another” (James 5:16).

• Seek counsel from mature believers (Proverbs 11:14).

6. Persist in watchfulness

• Weeds return; remain vigilant (1 Peter 5:8-9).

• Continual pruning keeps the fruitful branches healthy (John 15:2).

Staying Planted in Truth

• Daily abide in Christ, the true Vine (John 15:4-5).

• Feed on Scripture, not popular opinion (Colossians 3:16).

• Walk by the Spirit so fleshly seeds cannot take root (Galatians 5:16).

• Remember your new birth “through the living and enduring word of God” (1 Peter 1:23).

Closing Encouragement

God never exposes a weed without offering power to uproot it. As we submit to His Word and Spirit, every foreign plant must give way to the fruitful garden He intends our lives to be.
