How to see God's authority daily?
How can we discern God's authority in our daily decision-making processes?

The Scene in Mark 11:30

“Was John’s baptism from heaven or from men? Answer Me!” (Mark 11:30)

• Jesus forces His listeners to trace the source of authority—either “from heaven” or “from men.”

• The question is literal and historical, yet it also frames every choice we face today: will we recognize and submit to God’s authority, or default to human opinion?

Listening for the Voice of Heaven

• Scripture is accurate and literal, so we can rely on it as the primary voice of heaven (Psalm 119:105).

• The Spirit never contradicts the written Word (John 16:13).

• God’s voice carries peace and clarity, not confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33; Colossians 3:15).

How to Evaluate a Decision’s Source

1. Alignment with Scripture

– Compare the option to explicit biblical commands or principles (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

2. Spirit-given Conviction

– God’s promptings are consistent, not erratic (John 10:27).

3. Godly Counsel

– Seek mature believers who confirm the Word (Proverbs 11:14).

4. Providential Circumstances

– Watch for doors God opens or closes (Revelation 3:7).

5. Inner Peace or Check

– Let Christ’s peace “rule” (literally, umpire) in your heart (Colossians 3:15).

Practical Steps for Discernment

• Start with submission: “Your will be done” positions the heart to hear (Romans 12:1-2).

• Read and meditate on Scripture daily; the more familiar you are with God’s voice, the easier it is to spot counterfeits.

• Ask specifically for wisdom (James 1:5).

• Write out options, then test each one against the five evaluation points above.

• Wait when needed; rushing often signals human pressure rather than heavenly direction (Isaiah 28:16).

Reinforcing Passages

Proverbs 3:5-6 — Trust Him, not your own understanding.

John 10:27 — Sheep know His voice.

Romans 12:2 — A renewed mind discerns God’s will.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 — Test everything; hold fast to what is good.

Living It Out Today

• Begin each morning asking, “Is my next choice from heaven or from men?”

• Keep a journal of decisions and the scriptures or confirmations that guided you; review it to build confidence in God’s consistent leading.

• Celebrate the outcomes that clearly bear heaven’s signature—fruit of righteousness, peace, and glory to God (Galatians 5:22-23; Matthew 5:16).
