How to see God's works in our lives?
What practical steps can we take to witness God's works in our lives?

The Scene on the Sea

“Others went out to sea in ships, conducting trade on the mighty waters.” (Psalm 107:23)

“They saw the works of the LORD, His wonders in the deep.” (Psalm 107:24)

The psalmist paints a literal picture of merchants who left the safety of shore, met towering waves, and then witnessed the Lord’s mighty intervention. Scripture records this with absolute accuracy, showing how ordinary work became an arena for extraordinary encounters with God.

Why This Matters for Us Today

God’s Word stands true and trustworthy. The same Lord who revealed His power to sailors on the Mediterranean still shows Himself in daily life. By embracing these inspired lines as literal history, we gain confidence that the steps they took can guide our steps now.

Practical Steps to Witness God’s Works

• Step out of comfort.

– The sailors “went out to sea.” Staying on shore is safe, but faith flourishes when we obey God’s leading into new territory (Genesis 12:1; Matthew 14:29).

• Expect His activity in ordinary labor.

– They were “conducting trade.” Daily responsibilities—jobs, errands, studies—become stages where the Lord displays His power (Colossians 3:23-24).

• Keep spiritual eyes open.

– “They saw the works of the LORD.” Intentionally look for the hand of God in small blessings, surprising opportunities, and timely protections (Psalm 40:5).

• Cry out when the waves rise.

– Later in the psalm, “they cried out to the LORD in their trouble” and He stilled the storm (Psalm 107:28-29). Honest prayer invites visible answers.

• Note every deliverance.

– The psalm repeatedly urges people to “give thanks to the LORD for His loving devotion” (Psalm 107:31). Keep a journal of answered prayers and providences.

• Share the story.

– “Let the redeemed of the LORD say so” (Psalm 107:2). Testimony builds faith in others and magnifies God’s name (Mark 5:19).

Supporting Snapshots from Scripture

Exodus 14:13-31 – Israel steps between towering walls of water and watches God drown their enemies.

Daniel 6:22 – Daniel’s routine faithfulness at work leads to a lion’s-den rescue.

Luke 8:22-25 – Jesus literally repeats Psalm 107 by calming a storm for fishermen-disciples.

2 Corinthians 1:10 – Paul records past, present, and future deliverances, strengthening his trust.

Living It Out Daily

• Begin each morning asking, “Lord, where is my ‘sea’ today?”

• Enter tasks with anticipation that He will act.

• Celebrate every glimpse of His intervention—small or dramatic.

• Tell someone what He has done before the day ends.

Follow these steps and the mighty works once seen on ancient waters will become vivid, personal realities in the currents of modern life.
