How to seek God's help in tough times?
How can we seek God's deliverance in challenging situations today?

Anchoring in Psalm 31:16

“Make Your face shine on Your servant; save me by Your loving devotion.”

• David’s cry is both intimate and urgent. He believes God literally turns His shining face—His favor—toward those who belong to Him.

• Deliverance rests on God’s ḥesed, His steadfast covenant love. David does not bargain; he appeals to God’s character.

What God’s “Shining Face” Means for Us Today

• Favor and attention: Numbers 6:25—“The LORD cause His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you.” When God looks with favor, grace and rescue follow.

• Guidance in darkness: Psalm 43:3—“Send out Your light and Your truth; let them lead me.” His shining face illuminates the next step when the path feels hidden.

• Reassurance of relationship: John 10:27-28—Jesus promises His sheep hear His voice and cannot be snatched away. The shining face confirms we are securely His.

Practical Steps to Seek God’s Deliverance

1. Acknowledge the crisis openly

Psalm 31:13-14 models honesty about fear while still declaring, “But I trust in You, O LORD.”

2. Ask specifically for His face to shine

– Echo David’s words. Specific, Scripture-saturated requests align our hearts with His revealed will.

3. Stand on covenant promises

Isaiah 41:10—“Do not fear, for I am with you… I will uphold you.”

1 Corinthians 10:13—He provides “a way of escape” so we can endure.

4. Wait expectantly

Psalm 27:14—“Wait for the LORD; be strong and courageous.” Waiting is active confidence, not passive resignation.

5. Obey any revealed instruction

2 Chronicles 20:17—Judah was told, “Stand still and see the salvation of the LORD.” Deliverance often unfolds as we follow simple, immediate steps.

6. Praise in advance

Acts 16:25-26 shows Paul and Silas singing before the earthquake. Worship is a declaration that God’s rescue is certain.

Marks of Genuine Deliverance

• God’s glory, not our ingenuity, gets the credit (Psalm 115:1).

• The outcome deepens our trust rather than merely solves a problem (Romans 5:3-5).

• Others are encouraged to seek Him when they see His faithfulness in us (Psalm 40:3).

Living in Continual Expectation

• Keep short accounts with sin so nothing clouds the brightness of His face (1 John 1:9).

• Regularly recount past rescues—“You have redeemed me” (Psalm 31:5). Yesterday’s deliverances fuel today’s faith.

• Stay rooted in the Word; faith for deliverance “comes from hearing” the unchanging promises (Romans 10:17).

God still shines His face and still delivers. As we echo David’s plea and cling to the sure promises of Scripture, we can face any challenge with confident expectancy.
