How can we seek God's help when feeling "no one to help" us? Scripture Focus “Be not far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.” – Psalm 22:11 Seeing Our Hearts in the Psalm • David voices what many of us feel: trouble closing in, friends absent, strength fading. • He does not deny the pain; he delivers it straight to God. • When we do the same, we step onto the path from isolation to intimacy with the Lord. How the Verse Guides Us to Seek God’s Help • Admit the need – “Trouble is near” – name the crisis. God meets honesty, not pretense (Psalm 62:8). • Declare the loneliness – “There is no one to help” – say it aloud. Hiding the ache keeps it festering. • Appeal to God’s nearness – “Be not far” – call on the covenant promise that He will never leave nor forsake (Hebrews 13:5). • Anchor in God’s character – Throughout Psalm 22 David recalls past deliverances (vv. 3–5). Memory fuels faith. Practical Ways to Act on This Today 1. Speak the verse back to God. Replace “me” with your name. 2. Write out specific troubles and circle each one, marking, “Be not far, Lord.” 3. Reach for the Gospels and watch Jesus respond to the helpless (Mark 1:40-42; John 5:5-9). Let His actions convince you He hears now. 4. Join a believing friend or church elder to read Psalm 22 aloud. Where two agree, God moves (Matthew 18:19-20). 5. Sing. David turned anguish into worship (Psalm 22 becomes praise in v. 22). Find a hymn that voices trust and lift it, however shaky. 6. Keep a “God-helped-me” journal. Record even the smallest rescues; they’re stones of remembrance (Joshua 4:6-7). Promises to Hold in the Dark • “The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18 • “When my father and my mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me.” – Psalm 27:10 • “Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7 • “I cried to You, O LORD: ‘You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.’” – Psalm 142:5 • “He will deliver the needy when he cries, and the poor who has no helper.” – Psalm 72:12 Christ in the Center of Our Loneliness • Psalm 22 is ultimately fulfilled on the cross (Matthew 27:46). • Jesus entered complete abandonment so we would never face it alone. • Because He was not rescued from suffering, He can rescue us in suffering (Hebrews 2:17-18). Walking Forward Even when every human support vanishes, the living God remains within whisper-reach. Cry out honestly, cling to His revealed character, and expect Him to act—because He has staked His own name on being the Helper of the helpless. |
