How to share Jesus' power over evil?
What actions can we take to share Jesus' authority over evil today?

Setting the Scene: Mark 5:14

“Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened.”

What the Crowd Witnessed

• A man hopelessly bound by a legion of demons is instantaneously freed (Mark 5:1-13).

• The deliverance is so dramatic that even the pigs’ keepers cannot stay silent—news spreads at once (Mark 5:14).

• A once-tormented man now sits “clothed and in his right mind” (Mark 5:15). The transformation itself becomes the testimony.

Why This Matters for Us Today

• Jesus’ authority over evil was not confined to that shoreline. He promises, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me… therefore go” (Matthew 28:18-19).

• He delegates power to believers: “In My name they will drive out demons” (Mark 16:17).

• Scripture states, “The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

Because these truths remain literal and reliable, we can act with confidence.

Actions for Sharing Jesus’ Authority over Evil

1. Recognize the Reality of Spiritual Warfare

• Stay alert (1 Peter 5:8).

• Do not dismiss evil as mere symbolism; treat the spiritual realm as Scripture describes it—real and present.

2. Abide in Jesus’ Presence

• The delivered man stayed near Jesus (Mark 5:18). We, too, must cultivate closeness through Scripture reading, worship, and obedience (John 15:4-5).

• Authority flows out of relationship, not formula.

3. Tell the Story of Transformation

• Jesus told the man, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you” (Mark 5:19).

• Share personal testimonies of God’s deliverance; they overcome the enemy (Revelation 12:11).

4. Stand on Jesus’ Name and Word

• Command evil to flee in accordance with James 4:7—“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

• Use Scripture as the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17).

5. Pray with Authority, Not Anxiety

• Jesus spoke a word and the demons left (Mark 5:8).

• Pray decisively in His name (John 14:13-14), trusting His finished work.

6. Guard Your Life with Holiness

• Avoid openings for darkness—unforgiveness, habitual sin, occult practices (Ephesians 4:27).

• Live set apart so that the enemy finds no foothold.

7. Partner with the Body of Christ

• The early church confronted evil together (Acts 16:18; 19:11-20).

• Seek accountable fellowship; combine faith with others for discernment and support.

Bringing It All Together

Just as news of the Gerasene deliverance spread instantly, our everyday obedience, clear testimony, and prayerful authority make Jesus’ victory visible now. When we recognize the battle, remain close to Him, and act on His Word, we participate in the same triumph that sent a legion of demons fleeing two thousand years ago.

How should believers respond to witnessing Jesus' power, as seen in Mark 5:14?
