How to stay true to God's covenant?
How can we ensure we remain faithful to God's covenant, as Moses did?

Setting the Scene

“And at the end of forty days and forty nights, the LORD gave me the two tablets of stone—the tablets of the covenant.” (Deuteronomy 9:11)

What We Learn from Moses in This Moment

• He remained on the mountain until God finished speaking (Exodus 34:28).

• He received, protected, and delivered God’s Word exactly as given (Deuteronomy 9:15).

• His faithfulness was rooted in awe, fasting, and undivided attention to the Lord (Deuteronomy 9:9).

Practical Ways to Remain Faithful to God’s Covenant

1. Cultivate a Sacred Rhythm

• Daily Scripture intake—“You shall meditate on it day and night” (Joshua 1:8).

• Set times of focused prayer and fasting, as Moses did (Matthew 6:6, 17).

2. Guard the Heart

• “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23).

• Actively resist idolatry and complacency (1 Corinthians 10:12-14).

3. Walk in Humble Obedience

• Obey promptly even when the culture resists (Acts 5:29).

• Remember that love for God is proven by obedience (John 14:15).

4. Practice Regular Remembrance

• Rehearse God’s past faithfulness (Psalm 103:2).

• Teach the next generation so the covenant is not forgotten (Deuteronomy 6:6-9).

5. Maintain God-Centered Community

• Assemble with fellow believers for encouragement (Hebrews 10:24-25).

• Submit to mutual accountability (Galatians 6:1-2).

6. Embrace Continual Repentance

• Confess sin quickly—“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive” (1 John 1:9).

• Keep a tender conscience like David (Psalm 51:10-12).

7. Depend on the Perfect Mediator

• Moses interceded; Christ intercedes forever (Hebrews 7:25).

• Rely on His grace to empower obedience (Titus 2:11-12).

Summary

Like Moses, we remain faithful by lingering in God’s presence, treasuring His Word, guarding our hearts, obeying promptly, remembering His works, walking in repentant humility, and leaning continually on the intercession of Christ.

In what ways can we prepare our hearts to receive God's instructions today?
