How to survey our spiritual inheritance?
How can we "go and survey" our spiritual inheritance today?

Focus Verse

“Appoint three men from each tribe, and I will send them out to go throughout the land and describe it according to their inheritance, then come back to me.” – Joshua 18:4

Biblical Backdrop

• Israel already owned the land by promise (Joshua 1:2–3) but still needed to walk it, measure it, and claim it.

• Likewise, believers are “heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ” (Romans 8:17) and have been “blessed … with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3).

• Surveying, therefore, is not earning an inheritance; it is discovering and occupying what is already ours.

Why Survey Today?

• To move from head knowledge to lived experience (James 1:22).

• To silence the enemy’s claim that the territory is his (Colossians 2:15).

• To cultivate gratitude and faith for the next step (Psalm 16:6).

Practical Steps to Survey Your Spiritual Inheritance

1. Open the Map

– Read through Ephesians 1–3, Colossians 1, 1 Peter 1.

– Highlight every word that names what is already yours: adoption, redemption, authority, hope, power.

2. Walk the Borders

– Meditate on one promise at a time.

– Speak it aloud; personalize it: “I have redemption through His blood” (Ephesians 1:7).

3. Record What You See

– Keep a journal of insights, answered prayers, and areas still unexplored.

– “Write down the vision” (Habakkuk 2:2).

4. Confront the Giants

– Identify habitual sins, fears, or lies that squat on God’s property.

– Use Scripture as your sword (2 Corinthians 10:4–5; Ephesians 6:17).

5. Plant the Flag

– Act on each truth: forgive someone, serve boldly, give generously.

– “Whatever He tells you, do it” (John 2:5).

6. Return and Report

– Share testimonies with fellow believers (Hebrews 10:24–25).

– Encourage others to survey their portion.

What You’ll Discover While Surveying

• Riches of grace that “surpass knowledge” (Ephesians 3:19).

• Power for daily living (2 Peter 1:3).

• Unshakable hope reserved in heaven (1 Peter 1:4).

• Joy inexpressible (1 Peter 1:8).

• A deeper love for the Giver as well as the gifts (Psalm 73:25–26).

Closing Encouragement

Every promise is deeded to you in Christ. Pick up the map, step onto the soil, and let the Holy Spirit guide your survey until every corner of your inheritance is explored and enjoyed.
