How to trust God's plan despite doubts?
What steps can we take to trust God's plan despite personal doubts?

Facing Doubt in Exodus 6:12

“ But in the LORD’s presence Moses replied, ‘If the Israelites will not listen to me, then how will Pharaoh listen to me, since I am uncircumcised of lips?’ ”

Moses stands in God’s presence overwhelmed by his own limits. His words echo the questions we ask when our confidence falters. God’s response in the verses that follow—and throughout the rest of Scripture—gives a clear pathway for turning personal doubt into growing trust.

Step 1: Voice the Struggle Honestly

• Moses doesn’t mask his fears; he brings them straight to God.

Psalm 62:8 invites the same: “Pour out your hearts before Him; God is our refuge.”

• Honest confession is never unbelief; it’s the first move toward deeper belief.

Step 2: Revisit God’s Promises

• Immediately before Moses protests, God reaffirms His covenant (Exodus 6:2-8).

• List out what God has promised: deliverance, a land, His presence.

Joshua 21:45 reminds us: “Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.”

• Rehearsing God’s track record steadies present faith.

Step 3: Shift the Focus from Self to the Savior

• Moses points to his “uncircumcised lips”; God points to His own mighty hand (Exodus 6:6-7).

2 Corinthians 12:9: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.”

• The issue is never our adequacy but God’s sufficiency.

Step 4: Act on the Light You Have

• Despite Moses’ hesitation, God “commanded” him to speak (Exodus 6:13).

• Faith grows when we obey the next revealed step, even if feelings lag behind.

James 2:22 describes Abraham’s faith as “made complete by what he did.”

Step 5: Let Scripture Speak Louder Than Feelings

• Feelings waver; God’s Word stands firm (Isaiah 40:8).

• Build a habit of replacing anxious thoughts with direct quotations:

Psalm 56:3-4

Romans 8:31-32

Hebrews 13:5-6

• God’s unchanging truth recalibrates shaky emotions.

Step 6: Remember the Cross as God’s Guarantee

Romans 8:32 anchors every promise: “He who did not spare His own Son…how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?”

• The historical, literal resurrection secures our present trust; if God kept that promise, He will keep the rest.

Step 7: Walk with Faith-Building Companions

• Moses had Aaron by his side (Exodus 4:14-16).

Hebrews 10:24-25 urges mutual encouragement so “your hearts may not be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness” (Hebrews 3:13).

• Choose relationships that call you toward faith, not fear.

Putting It Together

1. Tell God exactly where you’re struggling.

2. Write down and rehearse His explicit promises.

3. Shift the mental spotlight from your weakness to His strength.

4. Take the next obedient step, however small.

5. Saturate your mind with Scripture, not speculation.

6. Fix your eyes on the finished work of Christ.

7. Stay linked to believers who speak faith into your life.

Follow Moses’ pattern and watch doubt give way to durable trust—not because you became stronger, but because you learned to rest in the One who already is.
