Impact of death union on daily choices?
What does "united with Him in death" mean for our daily choices?

Rooted in Romans 6:5

“For if we have been united with Him like this in His death, we will certainly also be united with Him in His resurrection.” – Romans 6:5

What “united with Him in death” means

• Our old self was nailed to the cross with Christ (Romans 6:6).

• Sin’s legal claim over us ended; its power is broken (Colossians 2:14).

• We now share Christ’s death to sin and His new life to God (Romans 6:10-11).

Identity Determines Action

• Dead people don’t answer sin’s call.

• Living people respond to God’s call.

• Therefore, every choice flows from whichever identity we embrace at the moment.

Practical Implications for Daily Choices

– Renounce Sin’s Invitations

• “Count yourselves dead to sin” (Romans 6:11).

• When temptation whispers, remember you’re a corpse to that old master.

• Say no with the authority of one already crucified (Galatians 2:20).

– Present the Body as an Instrument of Righteousness

• “Do not offer any part of yourselves to sin… but offer yourselves to God” (Romans 6:13).

• Eyes, hands, tongue, phone—tools for holiness, not compromise.

– Cultivate New Desires

• The Spirit replaces cravings of the flesh (Galatians 5:24-25).

• Feed the new nature: Scripture intake, fellowship, worship.

– Embrace Sacrificial Love

• “He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves” (2 Corinthians 5:15).

• Choose service over self-promotion, generosity over greed, forgiveness over revenge.

– Practice Daily Surrender

• “Take up your cross daily and follow Me” (Luke 9:23).

• Each morning: Lord, my agenda dies; Your will lives.

– Expect Resurrection Power

• The same union that killed the old self guarantees life-power now (Romans 8:11).

• Step into tasks believing resurrection strength is active.

Connecting the Dots

United in death means:

1. Sin’s rule is finished.

2. A new, Spirit-empowered life has begun.

3. Every decision can now reflect the cross we share and the empty tomb we will share.
