Incorporate prayer daily like Jesus?
How can we incorporate prayer into our daily routine like Jesus did?

Setting the scene: Luke 11:1

“One day in a place where Jesus had just finished praying, one of His disciples came to Him and said, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.’ ” (Luke 11:1)

Noticing Jesus’ pattern

• Regular: He prayed “often” (Luke 5:16).

• Early: “Very early in the morning…He went out…to pray” (Mark 1:35).

• Unhurried: He sometimes prayed all night (Luke 6:12).

• Integrated: Prayer framed every major decision and season (Luke 3:21; 9:28-31; 22:41-44).

Building a prayer rhythm

Morning—begin before the day’s noise

• Offer thanks (Psalm 92:1-2).

• Surrender plans (Proverbs 3:5-6).

• Seek filling of the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18).

Midday—re-center when energy dips

• Pause like Daniel, who prayed “three times a day” (Daniel 6:10).

• Recall a verse memorized that morning; turn it into praise.

• Intercede for whomever God brings to mind.

Evening—close the day deliberately

• Reflect on God’s faithfulness (Psalm 4:8).

• Confess any sin revealed (1 John 1:9).

• Commit tomorrow to His care (Matthew 6:34).

Using the Lord’s Prayer as a framework

• Our Father—relationship (Romans 8:15).

• Hallowed be Your name—worship (Psalm 29:2).

• Your kingdom come—alignment with His mission (Matthew 6:33).

• Give us each day our daily bread—dependence (Philippians 4:19).

• Forgive us our sins—cleansing (Psalm 51:10).

• Lead us not into temptation—protection (2 Thessalonians 3:3).

Scripture-fueled praying

• Pray the Psalms: personalize Psalm 23 or 91.

• Turn promises into petitions: “You will keep in perfect peace…” (Isaiah 26:3).

• Use epistle prayers: Ephesians 1:17-19; Philippians 1:9-11.

Training the heart for continual prayer

• Tie short prayers to everyday cues—washing hands, sending emails, turning the key in the ignition.

• Keep a running conversation with God; whisper gratitude or request guidance as situations unfold (Nehemiah 2:4-5).

• Memorize “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17) as a gentle, constant reminder.

What consistent prayer produces

• Deeper intimacy with the Father (James 4:8).

• Sharpened discernment (John 5:19-20).

• Peace that overrules anxiety (Philippians 4:6-7).

• Power to obey God’s will (Colossians 1:9-11).
