How can we invite Jesus into our daily celebrations and gatherings? Celebrations Begin with a Real Story “On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there” (John 2:1). • A literal, historical wedding—God cares about real-life gatherings. • Because Scripture records it accurately, we can pattern our everyday events after it with confidence. Why Jesus Was on the Guest List • Verse 2 shows Jesus and His disciples were invited. An invitation was intentionally extended. • Revelation 3:20 portrays Him ready to enter when welcomed: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock…” • He honors free will; we choose to include Him, and He gladly comes. First Step: Name Him as Host • Pray aloud while planning: “Lord Jesus, these plans are Yours.” • Colossians 3:17: “And whatever you do in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus…” • Use His name naturally in conversation; acknowledgment invites His presence. Build the Guest List Around Love • John 13:34–35 commands Christ-like love; gatherings centered on love reflect His character. • Practical ideas: – Greet each person warmly; see them as God’s image-bearers. – Make room for those who might otherwise be overlooked (Luke 14:13). Start with Thankfulness • Psalm 100:4: “Enter His gates with thanksgiving…” Gratitude ushers Him in. • Simple practice: open the meal or activity by thanking God for specific blessings related to the occasion. Expect His Transforming Touch • At Cana He turned water into wine (John 2:9–10). He still transforms the ordinary. • Ask Him to turn conversation into encouragement, music into worship, food into fellowship. Keep Scripture Visible • Read a short passage—perhaps the verse inspiring the celebration. • Deuteronomy 6:6–9 models integrating God’s words into daily life: write them, talk about them, display them. Serve Generously • Jesus provided abundant wine; abundance mirrors His heart (John 10:10). • Offer extra food, time, or attention. Generosity highlights His presence. Maintain Pure Joy • Philippians 4:4: “Rejoice in the Lord always.” Joy anchored in Christ guards against excess or impurity. • Celebrate boldly yet wisely; 1 Corinthians 10:31 keeps us focused: “Whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.” Close with Remembrance • When guests leave, recall Cana: the best wine came last. • Reflect together on moments where Jesus showed up during the gathering. • End by blessing one another with words like Numbers 6:24–26. Daily Rhythm Summary 1. Intentionally invite Him. 2. Love people lavishly. 3. Give thanks aloud. 4. Share His Word. 5. Serve generously. 6. Rejoice purely. 7. End in remembrance and blessing. Putting these steps into practice turns ordinary get-togethers into holy celebrations where Jesus is not just a guest but the honored Host. |
