Joseph's example: trust in adversity?
How can Joseph's example inspire us to trust God's plan in adversity?

Our Verse Focus

“and rescued him from all his troubles. He gave him favor and wisdom before Pharaoh king of Egypt, who appointed him ruler over Egypt and all his household.” — Acts 7:10

Joseph’s Long Road of Adversity

• Betrayed by jealous brothers and sold into slavery (Genesis 37:23-28)

• Transported far from home, serving an Egyptian master (Genesis 39:1-2)

• Falsely accused of immorality and imprisoned (Genesis 39:20)

• Forgotten by those he helped in prison (Genesis 40:23)

God’s Providential Thread in Every Scene

• “The LORD was with Joseph” in Potiphar’s house and prison alike (Genesis 39:2, 21)

• Divine favor turned each hardship into a stepping-stone: slavery ➜ household manager, prison ➜ trusted overseer, dungeon ➜ palace advisor (Genesis 41:14-44)

• What men meant for evil, God wove into good (Genesis 50:20)

Acts 7:10 summarizes it: God rescued, granted favor, gave wisdom, and elevated Joseph to rule—every detail literally fulfilled.

Why His Story Fuels Our Trust Today

• Same unchanging God: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).

• Sovereign purpose in every setback: “We know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him” (Romans 8:28).

• Trials refine, not ruin: “Consider it pure joy… because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance” (James 1:2-3).

• God’s plan is for future and hope, never for ultimate harm (Jeremiah 29:11).

• Joseph’s literal promotion proves God can bring us from prison to platform in His time.

Practicing Trust in Daily Life

• Remember God’s past faithfulness—journal specific rescues as Joseph surely rehearsed his.

• Obey faithfully in small tasks; Joseph managed Potiphar’s house and prison details long before governing Egypt.

• Speak words of confidence in God’s character rather than rehearsing fears.

• Look for divine appointments in hard places—Joseph met the cupbearer and baker in confinement, keys to his future release.

• Hold adversity loosely, purpose firmly: God may be positioning you to bless many, just as He used Joseph to preserve nations.

In what ways can we seek God's wisdom in challenging situations today?
