NT links to Exodus 29:8 ordination?
What New Testament passages connect with the priestly ordination seen in Exodus 29:8?

Snapshot of Exodus 29:8

“Bring his sons forward, and clothe them with tunics.” (Exodus 29:8)

• The newly washed sons of Aaron are robed for priestly service.

• This outward clothing signals an inward setting apart for God.

Jesus, the Ultimate High Priest

Hebrews 4:14-16 — “We have a great High Priest… Jesus the Son of God.”

Hebrews 7:26-27 — “Such a High Priest truly befits us—holy, innocent, undefiled.”

Hebrews 8:1-2 — He ministers “in the sanctuary and true tabernacle set up by the Lord.”

Hebrews 10:19-22 — Because His body is the veil, we draw near “having our hearts sprinkled… and our bodies washed with pure water.”

Christ fulfills every element of priestly ordination, making the Exodus pattern complete and permanent.

Believers Robed for Priesthood

1 Peter 2:5 — “You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood.”

1 Peter 2:9 — “You are… a royal priesthood.”

Revelation 1:5-6 — He “has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father.”

Revelation 5:9-10 — The redeemed “will reign on the earth” as priests.

Just as Aaron’s sons put on tunics, every believer is clothed with a calling to serve and intercede.

Clothed in Christ: New-Covenant Garments

Galatians 3:27 — “All of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”

Romans 13:14 — “Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Colossians 3:10, 12 — “Put on the new self… clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness…”

The physical tunic of Exodus points to the spiritual garment of Christ’s righteousness that covers every believer.

Washed, Anointed, Commissioned

• Washing: Titus 3:5 — “the washing of new birth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.”

• Anointing: 2 Corinthians 1:21-22 — “He anointed us, set His seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts.”

• Commission: Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8 — believers sent out in priestly service to the world.

The full ordination pattern—wash, dress, anoint, serve—finds its echo in the New Testament church.

Heavenly Robes Await

Revelation 7:9, 14 — the great multitude stands “in white robes… they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.”

Revelation 19:8 — “Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear… the righteous acts of the saints.”

The priestly attire begun in Exodus and applied spiritually today will be displayed in glory forever.

Living It Out

Because Christ is our High Priest and we are His robed servants:

• Embrace the cleansing He provides.

• Wear His character daily.

• Offer spiritual sacrifices—praise, intercession, acts of love (Hebrews 13:15-16).

• Look forward to the day when the robes of righteousness will shine without stain in His presence.

How can we apply the concept of consecration from Exodus 29:8 in our lives?
