Other texts on God's name importance?
What other scriptures emphasize the importance of God's holy name?

Ezekiel’s Wake-Up Call

“But I had concern for My holy name, which the house of Israel profaned among the nations to which they had gone.” (Ezekiel 36:21)

God’s jealousy for His reputation did not begin—or end—with Ezekiel. From Genesis to Revelation, Scripture keeps circling back to the holiness of His name.

Reverence Commanded in the Law

Exodus 20:7—“You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave anyone unpunished who takes His name in vain.”

Leviticus 22:32—“You must not profane My holy name, and I will be sanctified among the Israelites.”

Deuteronomy 28:58—“If you are not careful to obey all the words of this law…to fear this glorious and awesome name—the LORD your God—”

Praise Echoed in the Psalms

Psalm 8:1—“O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!”

Psalm 111:9—“He has sent redemption to His people…holy and awesome is His name.”

Psalm 113:2-3—“Blessed be the name of the LORD both now and forevermore. From where the sun rises to where it sets, the name of the LORD is praised.”

Prophets Who Guard the Name

Isaiah 42:8—“I am the LORD; that is My name! I will not give My glory to another, nor My praise to idols.”

Isaiah 48:11—“For My own sake—for My own sake—I will act. For how can I let Myself be profaned? I will not give My glory to another.”

Malachi 1:11—“My name will be great among the nations…in every place incense and pure offerings will be presented to My name.”

Ezekiel 39:7—“I will make My holy name known among My people Israel; never again will I allow My holy name to be profaned.”

The Name Carried into the New Covenant

Matthew 6:9—“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.”

John 17:6—“I have revealed Your name to those You have given Me out of the world.”

Acts 4:12—“There is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”

Philippians 2:9-11—“God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow… and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Revelation 15:4—“Who will not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy.”

Why God’s Name Matters for Us

• It shapes our worship—praising His name keeps worship God-centered.

• It governs our speech—no careless or trivial use of His name.

• It guides our witness—our lives either honor or profane His reputation before a watching world.

• It anchors our hope—salvation is found in His name alone.

Living in Light of His Holy Name

• Speak His name with intentional awe.

• Align conduct with confession so His name is not maligned.

• Proclaim His name to the nations, trusting that He will guard the honor of His glory.
