Preparing for spiritual battles?
How can believers prepare for spiritual battles as seen in Revelation 11:7?

Reading the verse in context

“ ‘When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the Abyss will wage war against them, and will overcome and kill them.’ ” (Revelation 11:7)

What the scene teaches us

• Spiritual conflict is inevitable; the beast “will wage war.”

• The timing is God-controlled—war comes “when they have finished their testimony.”

• Physical defeat does not equal spiritual defeat; the chapter goes on to show resurrection and vindication (vv. 11-12).

Recognizing the enemy’s strategy

• Deceptive power: the beast rises from the Abyss (cf. Revelation 13:7; John 8:44).

• Intimidation through persecution: “overcome and kill” echoes Daniel 7:21.

• Attempt to silence witness: the attack begins only after testimony is complete.

Finishing our testimony: living with purpose

• Keep the mission central—Acts 20:24, “I consider my life worth nothing to me… if only I may finish the race.”

• Accept that courage may be costly—2 Timothy 3:12, “everyone who wants to live a godly life… will be persecuted.”

• Measure success by faithfulness, not survival—2 Timothy 4:7.

Putting on the full armor (Ephesians 6:10-18)

• Truth—anchor every claim in Scripture.

• Righteousness—guard conscience; sin gives the enemy a foothold.

• Gospel readiness—practice sharing Christ before pressure intensifies.

• Faith—extinguish the flaming arrows of doubt.

• Salvation assurance—remember whose you are when threatened.

• Word of God—quote it aloud, as Jesus did (Matthew 4:1-11).

• Constant prayer—stay on the line with Headquarters.

Strengthening the heart through worship and the Word

• Daily Scripture intake: Psalm 1:2 calls it “meditating day and night.”

• Singing truth: Acts 16:25 shows worship loosening chains.

• Fasting at critical moments: Matthew 17:21 indicates certain battles require it.

Standing together in fellowship

• Mutual protection—Ecclesiastes 4:12, “a cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

• Corporate discernment—Acts 13:2, the Spirit spoke while they were gathered.

• Shared encouragement—Hebrews 10:24-25 urges believers to meet especially “as you see the Day approaching.”

Living alert but unafraid

• Stay sober-minded—1 Peter 5:8 warns that the devil “prowls.”

• Resist steadfast in faith—James 4:7 promises the devil will flee.

• Remember ultimate victory—Revelation 12:11, “They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”

Keeping eyes on the coming victory

• Resurrection hope: the witnesses rise after three and a half days (Revelation 11:11).

• Public vindication: enemies watch God’s triumph (v. 12).

• Eternal reign: the seventh trumpet announces, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord” (v. 15).

Practical take-home checklist

□ Spend unhurried time in Scripture daily.

□ Memorize key promises for moments of attack.

□ Engage in regular, honest fellowship.

□ Identify and confess sin quickly.

□ Practice verbal witness now; finish your testimony.

□ Keep an eternal perspective when opposition rises.
