Prioritize God's presence like Solomon?
How can we prioritize God's presence in our lives, like Solomon's temple focus?

The Central Thought from 1 Kings 6:17

“And the house, that is, the temple before it, was forty cubits long.”

• Solomon’s blueprint placed the inner sanctuary—the place of God’s manifest presence—at the very heart of the structure.

• Every dimension, piece of furniture, and layer of gold drew the worshiper’s attention forward to that holiest room.

• Our calling is similar: shape life so everything leads toward meeting with the Lord.

Seeing Ourselves as God’s Temple

1 Corinthians 3:16 — “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?”

1 Corinthians 6:19 — Personal bodies are “a temple of the Holy Spirit.”

• The glory that filled Solomon’s stone building (2 Chronicles 5:13-14) now seeks a home in surrendered hearts.

Making Room: Clearing the Main Hall

Just as the forty-cubit hall stood uncluttered before the Most Holy Place, we clear space in daily life:

- Remove idols: anything claiming the affection that belongs to God alone (Exodus 20:3; 1 John 5:21).

- Order schedules around Him, rather than squeezing Him into leftover moments (Ephesians 5:15-16).

- Guard mental “floor space”: refuse thoughts that crowd out His voice (2 Corinthians 10:5).

Daily Rhythms That Host His Presence

Word — “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you” (Colossians 3:16).

Prayer — “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8).

Worship — “Yet You are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel” (Psalm 22:3).

Fellowship — “Where two or three are gathered in My name, there am I” (Matthew 18:20).

Obedience — “Whoever has My commandments and keeps them… I will manifest Myself to him” (John 14:21).

Arranging Life So Everything Points Inward

Think of the temple’s concentric design—courtyard, hall, inner sanctuary—then apply:

1. Public sphere (work, school, community)

• Act as ambassador of His presence (2 Corinthians 5:20).

2. Home sphere (family, friendships)

• Speak blessing, practice forgiveness, cultivate songs and Scripture in the atmosphere (Deuteronomy 6:6-7).

3. Private sphere (thought life, secret choices)

• Keep the “lamp” of devotion burning continually (Leviticus 24:2; Matthew 6:6).

Guarding What Is Holy

• Solomon overlaid the inner room with pure gold (1 Kings 6:20-22). Value His presence above ease or entertainment.

Hebrews 10:19-22 teaches bold yet reverent entry by Christ’s blood; treat the privilege with awe.

• When conviction comes, respond quickly—don’t allow defilement to linger in the holy place (Psalm 32:5).

Living With a Temple Mindset

• Seek first His kingdom and righteousness; the rest will follow (Matthew 6:33).

• Practice continual awareness: whisper prayers, offer thanks, listen for promptings (1 Thessalonians 5:17-18).

• Expect His glory to fill ordinary rooms just as it once filled the temple (Habakkuk 2:14; John 1:14).

Outcome: A Life That Points Others to God

When His presence is prioritized, we become:

- A light set on a hill (Matthew 5:14).

- “The fragrance of Christ” among people who are seeking hope (2 Corinthians 2:15).

- Living proof that the God who once dwelled behind a veil now chooses to dwell within surrendered hearts.

How does the temple's design in 1 Kings 6:17 connect to Exodus instructions?
