Show God's love in relationships?
How can we reflect God's love in our relationships with others?

Our Foundation: God is Love

1 John 4:8: “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

• Love is not merely something God does; it is who He is.

• Therefore, to know Him is to receive and display that same love toward others.

Receiving Before Reflecting

1 John 4:10-11 — We love because He first loved us; His initiative empowers ours.

Romans 5:5 — “The love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.”

• We cannot manufacture godly love; we pass along what we have personally received in Christ.

What Love Looks Like: Scriptural Snapshots

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 — Patience, kindness, rejoicing in truth, bearing and enduring all things.

John 13:34-35 — A new command: love one another as Christ loved; such love marks true discipleship.

Ephesians 4:32 — “Be kind and tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.”

Matthew 5:44 — Loving even enemies; praying for those who persecute us.

Practical Ways to Reflect God’s Love Daily

Family

– Speak life-giving words (Proverbs 18:21).

– Practice quick forgiveness; keep no record of wrongs (1 Corinthians 13:5).

– Serve in ordinary chores without complaint (Philippians 2:14-15).

Church

– Show hospitality; welcome newcomers as Christ welcomed you (Romans 15:7).

– Bear one another’s burdens through prayer and tangible help (Galatians 6:2).

– Promote unity by refusing gossip and pursuing reconciliation (Ephesians 4:3).

Workplace / School

– Work wholeheartedly “as for the Lord” (Colossians 3:23).

– Display integrity and fairness (Micah 6:8).

– Offer encouragement rather than competition; celebrate others’ successes (Romans 12:15).

Community

– Give generously to those in need (1 John 3:17-18).

– Volunteer time and skills for local projects; be the “light of the world” (Matthew 5:14-16).

– Treat every person—cashiers, neighbors, strangers—as image-bearers of God (Genesis 1:27).

Overcoming Barriers to Love

• Pride — Submit to God’s humility showcased in Christ (Philippians 2:5-8).

• Fear — Perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18).

• Bitterness — Release offenses, remembering how much you’ve been forgiven (Matthew 18:21-35).

• Weariness — Rely on the Spirit’s fruit, not mere human effort (Galatians 5:22-23).

Overflow: Love as Witness

• When believers love sacrificially, the unseen God becomes visible through us (1 John 4:12).

• Such love draws others to the gospel more powerfully than arguments alone (John 17:23).

• Let every relationship become a living illustration of 1 John 4:8, proving by action that “God is love.”
