Tabernacle's design foreshadowing Christ?
How does the tabernacle's design in Exodus 38:15 foreshadow Christ's role in salvation?

Verse Focus

“On the other side of the gate of the courtyard there were fifteen cubits of curtains, with three posts and three bases—identical to the first side.” (Exodus 38:15)

One Gate, One Mediator

• The courtyard had a single entrance; no alternative path existed.

• Jesus echoes this exclusivity: “I am the gate. If anyone enters through Me, he will be saved” (John 10:9).

• “No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

Exodus 38:15 quietly foreshadows the future truth proclaimed in 1 Timothy 2:5—one God, one Mediator.

Eastward Dawn, Rising Hope

• The gate faced east, welcoming worshipers with the sunrise.

• Christ is called “the Dawn” or “Dayspring” (Luke 1:78), shining light on those “living in the shadow of death.”

• Just as the courtyard opened to the morning light, salvation opens in Christ, the Light of the World (John 8:12).

Fifteen Cubits: Grace Perfected

• Fifteen = 5 × 3. Five often pictures grace; three speaks of divine completeness.

• The entrance length whispers that perfect, divine grace stands between the sinner and God—fulfilled in Jesus, “full of grace and truth” (John 1:14,16).

Three Posts, Three Bases: Unshakable Work

• Three sturdy supports on each side mirror key “threes” surrounding Christ:

– Crucified at the third hour (Mark 15:25).

– Raised on the third day (Luke 24:7).

• The matching posts and bases portray a finished, balanced work—His death and resurrection providing a firm foundation for faith (1 Corinthians 3:11).

Wide Invitation, Specific Way

• While the gate was the only way in, its opening (20 cubits total, vv. 14–16) was wide enough for any Israelite to enter.

• Salvation is both exclusive and inclusive: exclusive in route (Christ alone), inclusive in reach (“whoever believes,” John 3:16).

From Outside to Holy Ground

• Stepping through the gate brought worshipers immediately to the bronze altar—sacrifice before fellowship.

• Jesus likewise meets the sinner at the threshold with His own sacrifice, granting “confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus” (Hebrews 10:19-20).

Living Application

• Approach God only through the provision He has made—Christ.

• Rest in the completeness of His finished work; the “three posts and three bases” never wobble.

• Walk daily in the light of the risen Dawn, grateful that perfect grace keeps the way open.

What can we learn about obedience from the construction described in Exodus 38:15?
