Trust God's promises like Solomon?
How can we trust God's promises in our lives like Solomon did?

Setting the Scene: Solomon and 1 Kings 8:20

“Now the LORD has fulfilled the promise He made. For I have taken the place of my father David and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and I have built the house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.” (1 Kings 8:20)

• Solomon stands in a newly finished temple, seeing with his own eyes what God swore to David in 2 Samuel 7:12-13—an actual descendant ruling and a house built for God’s name.

• This verse is a hinge: past promise, present fulfillment, future confidence.

God’s Proven Track Record

Genesis 15:13-14—Israel would leave Egypt rich; fulfilled in Exodus 12:35-36.

Joshua 21:45—“Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to the house of Israel failed; everything was fulfilled.”

1 Kings 8:56—Solomon himself repeats the same truth moments later.

Isaiah 7:14Matthew 1:22-23—virgin birth promised and kept.

Micah 5:2Luke 2:4-7—Messiah born in Bethlehem.

• Every historical promise already kept becomes evidence that every future word is just as certain (Numbers 23:19).

Why Solomon Could Trust

• He possessed a specific, covenant word given to David (2 Samuel 7:16).

• He watched incremental fulfillment—David’s reign, Solomon’s own coronation, provision of materials, completion of construction.

• He lived in active obedience (1 Kings 3:3) and asked for wisdom that aligned him with God’s heart.

• He interpreted delays as timing, not denial; four years passed before the temple’s foundation, seven more to finish (1 Kings 6:1, 38).

How We Can Trust Like Solomon

• Anchor confidence in the written Word—read, memorize, and meditate daily (Psalm 119:140).

• Trace God’s faithfulness in your history—keep a journal of answered prayer and provision.

• Obey what you already know—faith and obedience walk together (James 2:22).

• Speak the promises back to God in prayer, exactly as Solomon did (1 Kings 8:24-26).

• Worship while you wait—praise shifts focus from the “when” to the “Who.”

• Accept God’s timing—He “has made everything beautiful in its time” (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

Promises Every Believer Can Rely On

• Presence—“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

• Guidance—“Trust in the LORD…He will direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

• Provision—“My God will supply all your needs.” (Philippians 4:19)

• Peace—“You will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is steadfast.” (Isaiah 26:3)

• Victory over sin—“Sin shall not be master over you.” (Romans 6:14)

• Eternal life—“Whoever hears My word and believes…has eternal life.” (John 5:24)

Living It Out This Week

• Select one promise that addresses a current need; write it on a card, carry it, recite it.

• Review at least three past instances where God proved faithful; thank Him aloud.

• Replace anxious thoughts by declaring 2 Corinthians 1:20—“For all the promises of God are ‘Yes’ in Christ.”

• Align choices with the promise; if God promises peace, refuse actions that fuel unrest.

• Share a testimony of God’s kept word with someone else; faith multiplies when spoken.

The same God who fulfilled every word to Solomon reigns unchanged today. His record is flawless, and His promises remain utterly trustworthy.
