Trust God to stop oppressors?
How can we trust God to "terrify no more" those who oppress others?

Setting the Scene

Psalm 10 ends with a ringing declaration that God Himself intervenes for the powerless:

“to vindicate the fatherless and oppressed, that the man of the earth may terrify no more.” (Psalm 10:18)

The psalmist has poured out grief over rampant injustice, yet he closes with absolute confidence that the Lord will silence every oppressor’s threats.

Key Observations from Psalm 10:18

• “vindicate” – God does not merely sympathize; He legally clears and restores victims.

• “fatherless and oppressed” – the most vulnerable receive top priority from heaven’s court.

• “the man of the earth” – oppressors look imposing, but they remain mere mortals.

• “terrify no more” – God’s verdict ends the reign of intimidation—permanently.

Why We Can Trust God to Stop the Terror

• His character is justice itself.

– “For the LORD loves justice.” (Psalm 37:28)

• He hears every cry.

– “He delivers the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no helper.” (Psalm 72:12)

• He sees every act of oppression.

– “For He who avenges blood remembers; He does not ignore the cry of the afflicted.” (Psalm 9:12)

• He has promised decisive intervention.

– “Because of the violence against the helpless, I will now arise,” says the LORD. (Psalm 12:5)

• He rules, not man.

– “The LORD has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all.” (Psalm 103:19)

Living It Out Today

• Anchor your hope in God’s final verdict, not in human systems.

• Pray Psalm 10 for those crushed under injustice, expecting real change.

• Stand with the vulnerable; become an earthly echo of God’s heavenly concern.

• Refuse intimidation—oppressors are “man of the earth,” but the Lord is eternal.

• Celebrate every glimpse of justice now as a preview of the coming, complete fulfillment.

Further Scriptures to Strengthen Confidence

Isaiah 54:14 – “You will be far from oppression, for you will not fear.”

Zephaniah 3:15 – “The LORD has removed your judgments… you will fear disaster no more.”

Ezekiel 34:28 – “They will dwell securely, with no one to frighten them.”

Romans 12:19 – “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says the Lord.”

Revelation 21:4 – “He will wipe away every tear… and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain.”

Summary

God’s pledge in Psalm 10:18 is ironclad: He Himself guarantees that oppressors will “terrify no more.” Because His justice, attentiveness, and sovereignty never fail, we can rest our hearts—and the hopes of the afflicted—securely in Him until every threat is forever silenced.
