Ways to prepare for Christ's return?
How can we prepare for Christ's return in practical ways today?

Stay Awake: The Call of Mark 13:35

“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know when the master of the house will return—whether in the evening, at midnight, when the rooster crows, or in the morning.”

Jesus’ picture is simple: the doorkeeper’s job is to stay awake so the house is ready whenever the master steps through the door. Our preparation works the same way—continuous, practical, wholehearted.

Cultivate a Watchful Heart

• Guard against spiritual drowsiness; stay alert to God’s voice each day (1 Thessalonians 5:6).

• Keep short accounts with the Lord—confess sin quickly and receive His cleansing (1 John 1:9).

• Let Scripture shape your outlook; daily Bible reading keeps your eyes open to eternal realities (Psalm 119:105).

Live in Daily Obedience

• Holiness isn’t optional while we wait: “You ought to conduct yourselves in holiness and godliness as you anticipate and hasten the coming of the day of God.” (2 Peter 3:11-12)

• Renounce ungodliness and embrace self-controlled, upright living (Titus 2:11-13).

• Make decisions with eternity in view—ask, “Will this matter when Christ appears?”

Strengthen Gospel Witness

• Share the good news while there is still time (Matthew 24:14).

• Pray for boldness and open doors (Colossians 4:3-4).

• Invest in missions and outreach; every act of witness anticipates the coming King.

Deepen Worship and Fellowship

• Regular, engaged worship keeps our focus on Christ’s worthiness (Hebrews 10:24-25).

• Encourage one another about “the Day” rather than speculating about dates (Matthew 24:36).

• Practice hospitality; the early church broke bread “with glad and sincere hearts” as they awaited His return (Acts 2:46-47).

Practice Faithful Stewardship

• Use time wisely—redeem the moments, knowing they are limited (Ephesians 5:15-16).

• Handle money as the Master’s property (Matthew 25:14-30). Give generously, avoid debt slavery, and store treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:19-21).

• Care well for your body; it is both temple and tool for service (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

Serve with Love and Mercy

• Look for Christ in “the least of these” (Matthew 25:40). Acts of mercy become tangible readiness.

• Use spiritual gifts to build up the church (1 Peter 4:10-11).

• Keep your lamp lit with active love, like the wise virgins who brought extra oil (Matthew 25:1-13).

Anchor in Hope

• Fix your eyes on “the blessed hope—the glorious appearance of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.” (Titus 2:13)

• When trials come, remember His promise: “I am coming soon.” (Revelation 22:20)

• “Remain in Him, so that when He appears we may be confident and unashamed.” (1 John 2:28)

Stay awake, keep serving, and let every moment reflect eager expectation. The master could walk through the door at any time—and when He does, may He find us ready and joy-filled.

Why is it important to be vigilant for Christ's return according to Mark 13:35?
