Who else in the Bible shows wisdom?
What other biblical figures exemplify wisdom and understanding like Daniel?

Setting the scene: Daniel 5:11

“There is a man in your kingdom in whom is a spirit of the holy gods. In the days of your father, illumination, insight, and wisdom like that of the gods were found in him.”

Nebuchadnezzar recognized that Daniel’s extraordinary discernment came from God’s own Spirit. Scripture showcases others who walked the same path of Spirit-born wisdom and understanding.

Joseph: Spirit-filled dream interpreter

Genesis 41:38-39—Pharaoh asks, “Can we find anyone like this man, in whom is the Spirit of God?”

• Joseph correctly explains dreams, stewards Egypt through famine, and models integrity.

• Like Daniel, he serves pagan rulers yet keeps uncompromising faith.

Solomon: God-given discernment for a nation

1 Kings 3:12—“I will give you a wise and discerning heart.”

1 Kings 4:29-31—God grants “wisdom… like sand on the seashore.”

• Proverbs and Ecclesiastes flow from that gift, reminding us that “the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10).

Moses: face-to-face counsel with God

Exodus 33:11—“The LORD would speak with Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend.”

• God’s law, delivered through Moses, became Israel’s guide for holy living—wisdom applied to every sphere of life.

Joshua: wisdom transferred and tested

Deuteronomy 34:9—“Joshua… was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him.”

• His leadership at Jericho and throughout Canaan shows Spirit-guided strategy and courage.

Bezalel: creative insight for worship

Exodus 31:1-3—God “filled him with the Spirit… with skill, ability, and knowledge” to craft the tabernacle.

• Wisdom isn’t limited to words; it includes God-inspired artistry that draws people to worship.

Ezra: skilled scribe with a prepared heart

Ezra 7:10—He “set his heart to study and to practice the Law… and to teach.”

• His diligent scholarship revives a post-exilic community, pairing knowledge with obedient action.

Stephen: irresistible wisdom under fire

Acts 6:10—Opponents “could not resist the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke.”

• Even in martyrdom, Stephen mirrors Daniel’s courage before hostile authorities.

Paul: insight into the mystery of Christ

Ephesians 3:3-4—Readers “understand my insight into the mystery of Christ.”

• His letters unpack the gospel with razor-sharp logic and Spirit-breathed revelation.

Jesus: wisdom incarnate

Luke 2:40—The Child “was filled with wisdom.”

Colossians 2:3—“In Him all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden.”

• Every other example ultimately points to Christ, the very source of Daniel’s and our wisdom.

Bringing it full circle

From Joseph in Pharaoh’s courts to Paul before Caesar, God repeatedly places wise, Spirit-led servants in pivotal moments. Daniel 5:11 is a reminder that such discernment is not self-made; it is granted by the God who “gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning” (Daniel 2:21). Seek Him, and the same Spirit who guided Daniel will equip you for whatever Babylon you face today.
