Obadiah appealed to Elijah’s knowledge of his proven faithfulness to the LORD. Though he served as Ahab’s palace administrator, he had not surrendered his allegiance to the God of Israel. His position within a corrupt court gave him opportunity to protect those endangered by Jezebel’s violence.

Jezebel sought to eradicate Yahweh’s prophetic witness while advancing Baal worship throughout Israel. Her persecution revealed the spiritual warfare behind Israel’s idolatry and the cost borne by those who remained loyal to the covenant God.

I hid a hundred prophets of the LORD, fifty men per cave,

Obadiah risked his life by concealing one hundred prophets in separate caves. Israel’s caves provided natural places of refuge, and Obadiah’s actions preserved a faithful remnant when public allegiance to the LORD could bring death.

and I provided them with food and water.

During the severe drought, supplying food and water required continued courage, resources, and secrecy. God sustained His servants through Obadiah, just as He had sustained Elijah by the brook Cherith and through the widow at Zarephath. Obadiah’s hidden service demonstrated that the LORD had faithful servants even within Ahab’s household.
