For He had healed so many that all who had diseases were pressing forward to touch Him. Isaiah foretold of the Servant who would bear human griefs and sorrows (Isaiah 53:4), and Jesus’ ministry began to reveal that promise in history. Many sufferers in that society endured isolation as well as pain, especially when their conditions made them ceremonially unclean or socially excluded. Jesus did not withdraw from their need. He received those whom others avoided, fulfilling the Shepherd’s care for the weak, sick, and scattered described in Ezekiel 34:16.
