This doctrine holds that Jesus, who ascended into heaven following His resurrection, will return to earth in glory to fulfill the promises of God, judge the living and the dead, and establish His eternal kingdom.

In his first letter to the Thessalonians, he writes: "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first" (1 Thessalonians 4:16). The return of Jesus is not only a future event but also a present hope that influences Christian life and ethics. It serves as a source of encouragement and perseverance for believers facing trials and tribulations. The Apostle Peter exhorts Christians to live holy and godly lives in anticipation of this event: "But in keeping with God’s promise, we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells" (2 Peter 3:13).

The Second Coming is also a time of judgment and restoration. Jesus will return as the righteous judge, as Paul notes in his letter to Timothy: "In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of His appearing and His kingdom, I give you this charge" (2 Timothy 4:1). This judgment will bring about the final defeat of sin and death, and the full realization of God's kingdom.

Eschatological Hope

The assurance of Jesus' return is a central element of Christian hope, providing believers with a future-oriented perspective that transcends present circumstances. The Book of Revelation offers a vivid depiction of this hope, portraying the ultimate victory of Christ and the establishment of a new creation: "He who testifies to these things says, 'Yes, I am coming soon.' Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!" (Revelation 22:20).

This eschatological hope is not merely a distant dream but a present reality that shapes the faith and practice of the Christian community. It calls believers to remain vigilant, faithful, and active in their witness, as they await the glorious return of their Savior and Lord.
