1. Definition and Etymology
Remmon, also spelled Rimmon, is a name found in the Bible that refers to both a deity and a geographical location. The name is derived from a Semitic root meaning "pomegranate," which is a symbol of fertility and abundance in ancient Near Eastern cultures.

2. Remmon as a Deity
In the context of a deity, Remmon is associated with the Syrian god of storms and rain. This god was worshiped in Damascus, and his name appears in the Bible in 2 Kings 5:18, where Naaman, a commander of the army of the king of Aram, expresses concern about bowing in the temple of Rimmon:
"Yet may the LORD forgive your servant this one thing: When my master goes into the temple of Rimmon to worship there and he leans on my arm, and I bow in the temple of Rimmon—when I bow in the temple of Rimmon, may the LORD forgive your servant in this matter.” (2 Kings 5:18)

3. Remmon as a Geographical Location
Remmon is also the name of a town in the territory allotted to the tribe of Simeon. It is mentioned in Joshua 19:7 and 1 Chronicles 4:32 as one of the towns given to Simeon within the inheritance of the tribe of Judah:
"Ain, Rimmon, Ether, and Ashan—four cities, along with their villages;" (Joshua 19:7)
"And their villages were Etam, Ain, Rimmon, Tochen, and Ashan—five towns," (1 Chronicles 4:32)

4. Remmon-Methoar
In Joshua 19:13, Remmon is mentioned in the context of the boundary of the tribe of Zebulun, where it is referred to as Rimmon-Methoar:
"From there it went eastward to Gath-hepher and Eth-kazin; it extended to Rimmon and turned toward Neah." (Joshua 19:13)
This location is believed to be distinct from the Remmon associated with the tribe of Simeon.

5. Remmon in Zechariah
The name Remmon also appears in Zechariah 14:10, where it is mentioned in a prophetic context concerning the future topographical changes in the land of Israel:
"All the land will be changed into a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem. But Jerusalem will be raised up and remain in its place, from the Benjamin Gate to the site of the First Gate, to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the king’s winepresses." (Zechariah 14:10)
This reference to Remmon is likely a geographical location south of Jerusalem, distinct from the other mentions.

6. Theological Significance
The mention of Remmon in various contexts highlights the syncretism and religious challenges faced by the Israelites, as they were often surrounded by nations with different deities and religious practices. The biblical narrative consistently emphasizes the need for exclusive worship of Yahweh, the God of Israel, and the rejection of foreign gods like Rimmon. The geographical references to Remmon also underscore the historical and territorial aspects of the Israelite tribes as they settled in the Promised Land.
