The term "strangely" is not directly found in the text of the Bible; however, the concept of things being strange or unusual is present throughout the Scriptures. The Bible often uses terms like "strange," "foreign," or "unfamiliar" to describe actions, events, or entities that deviate from the norm or from God's established order.

Strange Fire

One of the most notable instances of something being described as "strange" in the Bible is the account of Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, who offered "strange fire" before the Lord. Leviticus 10:1-2 states, "Now Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them, and added incense; and they offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, contrary to His command. So fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD." This passage highlights the seriousness of deviating from God's prescribed methods of worship and the consequences of introducing unauthorized or "strange" elements into sacred practices.

Strange Gods

The Bible frequently warns against the worship of "strange gods" or foreign deities. In Deuteronomy 32:16 , it is written, "They provoked His jealousy with foreign gods; they enraged Him with abominations." The Israelites were repeatedly cautioned to remain faithful to Yahweh and not to be led astray by the gods of surrounding nations. The worship of strange gods is depicted as a betrayal of the covenant relationship between God and His people, often leading to dire consequences.

Strange Teachings

In the New Testament, believers are warned against "strange teachings" that deviate from the truth of the Gospel. Hebrews 13:9 advises, "Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods of no value to those devoted to them." This admonition underscores the importance of adhering to sound doctrine and being wary of teachings that might lead one away from the core tenets of the Christian faith.

Strangers and Aliens

The Bible also uses the concept of "strangers" to describe those who are not part of the covenant community. In Ephesians 2:19 , Paul writes, "Therefore you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of God’s household." Here, the term "strangers" is used metaphorically to describe the former state of Gentile believers who were once outside the covenant but have now been brought near through Christ.

Strange Acts of God

Occasionally, God's actions are described as "strange" or unexpected. In Isaiah 28:21 , it is written, "For the LORD will rise up as at Mount Perazim, He will rouse Himself as in the Valley of Gibeon, to do His work, His strange work, and to perform His task, His disturbing task." This passage refers to God's judgment, which may seem unusual or unexpected to those who witness it, yet it is part of His divine plan and purpose.

In summary, while the term "strangely" itself may not appear in the Bible, the concept of strangeness is woven throughout the Scriptures, often serving as a warning against deviation from God's commands, the introduction of foreign elements into worship, and the acceptance of teachings that are contrary to the Gospel.
