The Capture of Rabbah
(2 Samuel 12:26–31)

1  וַיְהִ֡י (And it happened), לְעֵת֩ (at the time) תְּשׁוּבַ֨ת (of the return) הַשָּׁנָ֜ה (of the year), לְעֵ֣ת׀ (at the time) צֵ֣את (of the going out) הַמְּלָכִ֗ים (of the kings), וַיִּנְהַ֣ג (that led out) יוֹאָב֩ (Joab) אֶת־ (-) חֵ֨יל (the force) הַצָּבָ֜א (of the host) וַיַּשְׁחֵ֣ת׀ (and destroyed) אֶת־ (-) אֶ֣רֶץ (the land) בְּנֵֽי־ (of the sons) עַמּ֗וֹן (of Ammon), וַיָּבֹא֙ (and he came in) וַיָּ֣צַר (and besieged) אֶת־ (-) רַבָּ֔ה (Rabbah). וְדָוִ֖יד (And David) יֹשֵׁ֣ב (stayed) בִּירֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם (at Jerusalem). וַיַּ֥ךְ (And defeated) יוֹאָ֛ב (Joab) אֶת־ (-) רַבָּ֖ה (Rabbah) וַיֶּֽהֶרְסֶֽהָ׃ (and overthrew it).

2  וַיִּקַּ֣ח (And took) דָּוִ֣יד (David) אֶת־ (-) עֲטֶֽרֶת־ (the crown) מַלְכָּם֩ (of their king) מֵעַ֨ל (from off) רֹאשׁ֜וֹ (his head), וַֽיִּמְצָאָ֣הּ׀ (and he found it) מִשְׁקַ֣ל (to weigh) כִּכַּר־ (a talent) זָהָ֗ב (of gold), וּבָהּ֙ (and in it were) אֶ֣בֶן (stones) יְקָרָ֔ה (precious), וַתְּהִ֖י (and it was) עַל־ (on) רֹ֣אשׁ (the head) דָּוִ֑יד (of David). וּשְׁלַ֥ל (And the plunder) הָעִ֛יר (of the city) הוֹצִ֖יא (he brought out) הַרְבֵּ֥ה (in abundance) מְאֹֽד׃ (great).

3  וְאֶת־ (And) הָעָ֨ם (the people) אֲשֶׁר־ (who were) בָּ֜הּ (in it) הוֹצִ֗יא (he brought out) וַיָּ֨שַׂר (and they sawed) בַּמְּגֵרָ֜ה (with the saws), וּבַחֲרִיצֵ֤י (and with the picks) הַבַּרְזֶל֙ (iron), וּבַמְּגֵר֔וֹת (and with the axes). וְכֵן֙ (Thus) יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה (did) דָוִ֔יד (David) לְכֹ֖ל (to all) עָרֵ֣י (the cities) בְנֵי־ (of the sons) עַמּ֑וֹן (of Ammon). וַיָּ֧שָׁב (And returned) דָּוִ֛יד (David) וְכָל־ (and all) הָעָ֖ם (the people) יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃פ (to Jerusalem).

Battles against the Philistines
(2 Samuel 21:15–22)

4  וַיְהִי֙ (And it came to pass) אַחֲרֵיכֵ֔ן (afterward) וַתַּעֲמֹ֧ד (that broke out) מִלְחָמָ֛ה (war) בְּגֶ֖זֶר (in Gezer) עִם־ (with) פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים (the Philistines). אָ֣ז (At that time) הִכָּ֞ה (killed) סִבְּכַ֣י (Sibbechai) הַחֻֽשָׁתִ֗י (the Hushathite) אֶת־ (-) סִפַּ֛י (Sippai) מִילִדֵ֥י (of the sons) הָרְפָאִ֖ים (of the Rephaim). וַיִּכָּנֵֽעוּ׃ (And they were subdued).

5  וַתְּהִי־ (And there was) ע֥וֹד (again) מִלְחָמָ֖ה (war) אֶת־ (with) פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים (the Philistines), וַיַּ֞ךְ (and killed) אֶלְחָנָ֣ן (Elhanan) בֶּן־ (son) יָעוּר (Jair) אֶת־ (-) לַחְמִי֙ (Lahmi) אֲחִי֙ (the brother) גָּלְיָ֣ת (of Goliath) הַגִּתִּ֔י (the Gittite), וְעֵ֣ץ (and the shaft) חֲנִית֔וֹ (of his spear was) כִּמְנ֖וֹר (was like a beam of) אֹרְגִֽים׃ (a weaver).

6  וַתְּהִי־ (And there was) ע֥וֹד (again) מִלְחָמָ֖ה (war) בְּגַ֑ת (in Gath), וַיְהִ֣י׀ (and where there was) אִ֣ישׁ (a man) מִדָּ֗ה (of stature) וְאֶצְבְּעֹתָ֤יו (and with digits) שֵׁשׁ־ (are six) וָשֵׁשׁ֙ (and six)— עֶשְׂרִ֣ים (twenty) וְאַרְבַּ֔ע (and four). וְגַם־ (And also) ה֖וּא (he) נוֹלַ֥ד (was born) לְהָרָפָֽא׃ (of Rapha). 7  וַיְחָרֵ֖ף (And he defied) אֶת־ (-) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (Israel), וַיַּכֵּ֙הוּ֙ (and killed him) יְה֣וֹנָתָ֔ן (Jonathan) בֶּן־ (son) שִׁמְעָ֖א (of Shimea) אֲחִ֥י (brother) דָוִֽיד׃ (of David).

8  אֵ֛ל (These) נוּלְּד֥וּ (were born) לְהָרָפָ֖א (of Rapha) בְּגַ֑ת (in Gath), וַיִּפְּל֥וּ (and they fell) בְיַד־ (by the hand) דָּוִ֖יד (of David) וּבְיַד־ (and by the hand) עֲבָדָֽיו׃פ (of his servants).
