Bildad: Man Cannot Be Righteous

1  וַ֭יַּעַן (And answered) בִּלְדַּ֥ד (Bildad) הַשֻּׁחִ֗י (the Shuhite) וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ (and said):

2  הַמְשֵׁ֣ל (Dominion) וָפַ֣חַד (and dread are) עִמּ֑וֹ (with Him);

עֹשֶׂ֥ה (the One making) שָׁ֝ל֗וֹם (peace) בִּמְרוֹמָֽיו׃ (in His high places).

3  הֲיֵ֣שׁ (Is there) מִ֭סְפָּר (a number) לִגְדוּדָ֑יו (to His troops)?

וְעַל־ (And upon) מִ֝֗י (whom) לֹא־ (not) יָק֥וּם (does arise) אוֹרֵֽהוּ׃ (His light)?

4  וּמַה־ (And how) יִּצְדַּ֣ק (can be righteous) אֱנ֣וֹשׁ (a man) עִם־ (with) אֵ֑ל (God)?

וּמַה־ (Or what) יִּ֝זְכֶּ֗ה (can be pure) יְל֣וּד (that is born) אִשָּֽׁה׃ (of a woman)?

5  הֵ֣ן (Behold) עַד־ (even) יָ֭רֵחַ (the moon), וְלֹ֣א (not) יַאֲהִ֑יל (does shine),

וְ֝כוֹכָבִ֗ים (and the stars) לֹא־ (not) זַכּ֥וּ (are pure) בְעֵינָֽיו׃ (in His eyes).

6  אַ֭ף (Indeed) כִּֽי־ (that) אֱנ֣וֹשׁ (a man), רִמָּ֑ה (a maggot)?

וּבֶן־ (And a son) אָ֝דָ֗ם (of man), תּוֹלֵעָֽה׃פ (a worm)?
