The Transfiguration 1And after six days, Jesus takes along Peter and James and John his brother, and He brings them up onto a high mountain by themselves. 2And He was transfigured before them, and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became white as the light. 3And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with Him. 4And answering, Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If You wish, I will make† here three tabernacles†—one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 5In his still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, “This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I am well pleased.† Listen to Him!” 6And having heard it, the disciples fell upon their face, and they were exceedingly terrified. 7And Jesus, having come near and having touched them, said, “Rise up, and do not be afraid.” 8And having lifted up their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus Himself alone. 9And in their coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell no one the vision until the Son of Man should be raised† out from the dead.” 10And the disciples† questioned Him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that it is necessary for Elijah to come first?” 11And answering, He said, “Elijah indeed comes† and will restore all things. 12But I say to you⁺ that Elijah did already come, and they did not know him, but they did to him whatever they wanted. Thus also the Son of Man is about to suffer under them.” 13Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them about John the Baptist. The Boy with a Demon 14And on their having come to the crowd, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him 15and saying, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is epileptic and suffers miserably;† for often he falls into the fire, and often into the water. 16And I brought him to Your disciples, and they were not able to heal him.” 17And answering, Jesus said, “O unbelieving and perverse generation, until when will I be with you⁺? Until when will I bear with you⁺? Bring him here to Me.” 18And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out from him, and the boy was healed from that hour. The Power of Faith 19Then the disciples, having come to Jesus in private, said, “Why were we not able to cast it out?” 20And He said to them,† “Because of your⁺ little faith.† For truly I say to you⁺, if you⁺ have faith as a grain of mustard, you⁺ will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. And nothing will be impossible for you⁺.†” The Second Prediction of the Passion 22And in their gathering together† in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men, 23and they will kill Him, and on the third day He will be raised up.” And they were deeply grieved. The Temple Tax 24And on their having come to Capernaum, those receiving the didrachmas† came to Peter and said, “Does your⁺ Teacher pay the didrachmas?†” 25He says, “Yes.” And on his having come† into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive custom or tribute: From their sons, or from the strangers?” 26And on his having said, “From the strangers,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free. 27But so that we might not offend them, having gone to the sea, cast a hook, and take the first fish having come up. And having opened its mouth, you will find a stater.† Having taken that, give it to them for Me and you.”
