Lamentations 1:3
Good News Translation
Judah's people are helpless slaves, forced away from home. They live in other lands, with no place to call their own--Surrounded by enemies, with no way to escape.

Judah has gone into exile with suffering and hard servitude; she lives now among the nations, and finds no resting place; her pursuers have all overtaken her in the midst of her distress.

Contemporary English Version
The people of Judah are slaves, suffering in a foreign land, with no rest from sorrow. Their enemies captured them and were terribly cruel.
