Peter’s Report at Jerusalem

1But the apostles and brethren being throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also received the word of God. 2And when Peter went tip to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision interviewed him, say 3that, You went in unto men having uncircumcision, and ate with them. 4And Peter beginning expounded unto them consecutively, saying, 5I was praying in the city Joppa: and I saw a vision in an ecstasy, A certain vessel, like a great sheet, descending from the heaven, sitting down by four rope ends; and came even unto me: 6into which looking, I was investigating, and I saw quadrupeds of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and the birds of the heaven. 7And I also heard a voice saying to me, Arising, Peter; slay and eat. 8And I said, By no means, Lord: because nothing unconsecrated or unclean has ever entered into my mouth. 9And a voice a second time was heard from heaven, Whatsoever things God has cleansed, consider thou not unconsecrated. 10And this took place three times: and all things were again taken up into the heaven. 11And, behold, immediately three men were standing at the house in which we were, having been sent to me from Cornelius. 12And the Spirit said to me, to go with them, doubting nothing. And these six brethren went along with me, and we entered into the house of the man. 13And he proclaimed to us how he saw an angel standing in his house, and saying, Send to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is called Peter; 14who will speak words to you, by which you and your whole family may be saved. 15And when I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. 16And I remembered the word of the Lord, as He said, John indeed baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. 17Since then God gave unto them the equal gift, as also unto us, believing on the Lord Jesus Christ; who was I, to be able to resist God? 18And hearing these things, they acquiesced, and glorified God, saying, Then God has also given unto the Gentiles repentance unto life.

The Church at Antioch

19Then indeed those having been dispersed abroad on account of the persecution prevailing over Stephen came through even to Phoenicia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except Jews only. 20And of them there were certain Cyprian and Cyrenean men, who, having come into Antioch, were speaking to the Greeks also, preaching the gospel of the Lord Jesus. 21And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number having believed, turned to the Lord. 22And the word was heard in the ears of the church in Jerusalem concerning them: and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. 23Who, coming, and seeing the grace of God, rejoiced, and continued to exhort all, with purpose of heart to abide with the Lord: 24because he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and faith. And a great multitude was added to the Lord. 25And he went away to Tarsus, to hunt up Saul: and having found him, led him to Antioch. 26And it happened unto them, a whole year indeed they assembled in the church, and taught a great multitude: and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

27And during those days prophets came from Jerusalem to Antioch. 28And one of them by name Agabus, standing up, signified through the Spirit that there is about to be a great famine throughout the whole world: which took place under the reign of Claudius. 29And they determined that each one of them should send to the ministry to the brethren dwelling in Judea, as each one of the disciples was prosperous; 30and this they did, sending to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.
