Now Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, along with cedar logs, stonemasons, and carpenters, to build a palace for him.1Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him an house.
And David realized that the LORD had established him as king over Israel and had highly exalted his kingdom for the sake of His people Israel.2And David perceived that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel.
And David took more wives in Jerusalem and became the father of more sons and daughters.3And David took more wives at Jerusalem: and David begat more sons and daughters.
These are the names of the children born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,4Now these are the names of his children which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,
Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet,5And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpalet,
Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,6And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,
Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphelet.7And Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphalet.
When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they all went in search of him; but David learned of this and went out to face them.8And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them.
Now the Philistines had come and raided the Valley of Rephaim.9And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
So David inquired of God, “Should I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” “Go,” replied the LORD, “for I will deliver them into your hand.”10And David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.
So David and his men went up to Baal-perazim, where he defeated the Philistines and said, “Like a bursting flood, God has burst out against my enemies by my hand.” So they called that place Baal-perazim.11So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.
There the Philistines abandoned their gods, and David ordered that they be burned in the fire.12And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.
Once again the Philistines raided the valley.13And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley.
So David again inquired of God, who answered him, “Do not march up after them, but circle around them and attack them in front of the balsam trees.14Therefore David inquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, move out to battle, because this will mean that God has marched out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”15And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.
So David did as God had commanded him, and they struck down the army of the Philistines all the way from Gibeon to Gezer.16David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.
And David’s fame went out into every land, and the LORD caused all nations to fear him.17And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.
