| 1Now the Spirit expressly states that in later times some will abandon the faith to follow deceitful spirits and the teachings of demons, | 1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; |

| 3They will prohibit marriage and require abstinence from certain foods that God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. | 3Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. |
| 4For every creation of God is good, and nothing that is received with thanksgiving should be rejected, | 4For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: |
| 5because it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. | 5For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. |
| 6By pointing out these things to the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished by the words of faith and sound instruction that you have followed. | 6If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. |
| 7But reject irreverent, silly myths. Instead, train yourself for godliness. | 7But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. |
| 8For physical exercise is of limited value, but godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for the present life and for the one to come. | 8For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. |
| 9This is a trustworthy saying, worthy of full acceptance. | 9This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation. |
| 10To this end we labor and strive, because we have set our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of everyone, and especially of those who believe. | 10For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. |

| 12Let no one despise your youth, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. | 12Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. |
| 13Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, and to teaching. | 13Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. |
| 14Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given you through the prophecy spoken over you at the laying on of the hands of the elders. | 14Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. |
| 15Be diligent in these matters and absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all. | 15Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. |
| 16Pay close attention to your life and to your teaching. Persevere in these things, for by so doing you will save both yourself and those who hear you. | 16Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. |
