Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, set your focus on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.1Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession;
He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.2He was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was in all His house.
For Jesus has been counted worthy of greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.3For He has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by just so much as the builder of the house has more honor than the house.
And every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.4For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.
Now Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house, testifying to what would be spoken later.5Now Moses was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken later;
But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are His house, if we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope of which we boast.6but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house-- whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end.
Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear His voice,7Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE,
do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness,8DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME, AS IN THE DAY OF TRIAL IN THE WILDERNESS,
where your fathers tested and tried Me, and for forty years saw My works.9WHERE YOUR FATHERS TRIED Me BY TESTING Me, AND SAW MY WORKS FOR FORTY YEARS.
Therefore I was angry with that generation, and I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known My ways.’10"THEREFORE I WAS ANGRY WITH THIS GENERATION, AND SAID, 'THEY ALWAYS GO ASTRAY IN THEIR HEART, AND THEY DID NOT KNOW MY WAYS';
So I swore on oath in My anger, ‘They shall never enter My rest.’ ”11AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH, 'THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST.'"
See to it, brothers, that none of you has a wicked heart of unbelief that turns away from the living God.12Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God.
But exhort one another daily, as long as it is called today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.13But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called "Today," so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly to the end the assurance we had at first.14For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end,
As it has been said: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion.”15while it is said, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS, AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME."
For who were the ones who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt?16For who provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses?
And with whom was God angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?17And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
And to whom did He swear that they would never enter His rest? Was it not to those who disobeyed?18And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who were disobedient?
So we see that it was because of their unbelief that they were unable to enter.19So we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief.
