Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, set your focus on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.1Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, partners in a heavenly calling, take note of Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess,
He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.2who is faithful to the one who appointed him, as Moses was also in God's house.
For Jesus has been counted worthy of greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.3For he has come to deserve greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house deserves greater honor than the house itself!
And every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.4For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.
Now Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house, testifying to what would be spoken later.5Now Moses was faithful in all God's house as a servant, to testify to the things that would be spoken.
But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are His house, if we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope of which we boast.6But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. We are of his house, if in fact we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope we take pride in.
Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear His voice,7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, "Oh, that today you would listen as he speaks!
do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness,8"Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness.
where your fathers tested and tried Me, and for forty years saw My works.9"There your fathers tested me and tried me, and they saw my works for forty years.
Therefore I was angry with that generation, and I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known My ways.’10"Therefore, I became provoked at that generation and said, 'Their hearts are always wandering and they have not known my ways.'
So I swore on oath in My anger, ‘They shall never enter My rest.’ ”11"As I swore in my anger, 'They will never enter my rest!'"
See to it, brothers, that none of you has a wicked heart of unbelief that turns away from the living God.12See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has an evil, unbelieving heart that forsakes the living God.
But exhort one another daily, as long as it is called today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.13But exhort one another each day, as long as it is called "Today," that none of you may become hardened by sin's deception.
We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly to the end the assurance we had at first.14For we have become partners with Christ, if in fact we hold our initial confidence firm until the end.
As it has been said: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion.”15As it says, "Oh, that today you would listen as he speaks! Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion."
For who were the ones who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt?16For which ones heard and rebelled? Was it not all who came out of Egypt under Moses' leadership?
And with whom was God angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?17And against whom was God provoked for forty years? Was it not those who sinned, whose dead bodies fell in the wilderness?
And to whom did He swear that they would never enter His rest? Was it not to those who disobeyed?18And to whom did he swear they would never enter into his rest, except those who were disobedient?
So we see that it was because of their unbelief that they were unable to enter.19So we see that they could not enter because of unbelief.
