For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. | 1For the choir director. A Psalm of David. The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. |
Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. | 2Day to day pours forth speech, And night to night reveals knowledge. |
Without speech or language, without a sound to be heard, | 3There is no speech, nor are there words; Their voice is not heard. |
their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens He has pitched a tent for the sun. | 4Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their utterances to the end of the world. In them He has placed a tent for the sun, |
Like a bridegroom emerging from his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course, | 5Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber; It rejoices as a strong man to run his course. |
it rises at one end of the heavens and runs its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its warmth. | 6Its rising is from one end of the heavens, And its circuit to the other end of them; And there is nothing hidden from its heat. |
The Law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is trustworthy, making wise the simple. | 7The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. |
The precepts of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart; the commandments of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. | 8The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. |
The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever; the judgments of the LORD are true, being altogether righteous. | 9The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether. |
They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. | 10They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb. |
By them indeed Your servant is warned; in keeping them is great reward. | 11Moreover, by them Your servant is warned; In keeping them there is great reward. |
Who can discern his own errors? Cleanse me from my hidden faults. | 12Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults. |
Keep Your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless and cleansed of great transgression. | 13Also keep back Your servant from presumptuous sins; Let them not rule over me; Then I will be blameless, And I shall be acquitted of great transgression. |
May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. | 14Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer. |
