Berean Study BibleNew International Version
A Psalm of David, for remembrance. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger or discipline me in Your wrath.1A psalm of David. A petition. LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.
For Your arrows have pierced me deeply, and Your hand has pressed down on me.2Your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down on me.
There is no soundness in my body because of Your anger; there is no rest in my bones because of my sin.3Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; there is no soundness in my bones because of my sin.
For my iniquities have overwhelmed me; they are a burden too heavy to bear.4My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear.
My wounds are foul and festering because of my sinful folly.5My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly.
I am bent and brought low; all day long I go about mourning.6I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning.
For my loins are full of burning pain, and no soundness remains in my body.7My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body.
I am numb and badly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart.8I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart.
O Lord, my every desire is before You; my groaning is not hidden from You.9All my longings lie open before you, Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you.
My heart pounds, my strength fails, and even the light of my eyes has faded.10My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes.
My beloved and friends shun my disease, and my kinsmen stand at a distance.11My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away.
Those who seek my life lay snares; those who wish me harm speak destruction, plotting deceit all day long.12Those who want to kill me set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they scheme and lie.
But like a deaf man, I do not hear; and like a mute man, I do not open my mouth.13I am like the deaf, who cannot hear, like the mute, who cannot speak;
I am like a man who cannot hear, whose mouth offers no reply.14I have become like one who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply.
I wait for You, O LORD; You will answer, O Lord my God.15LORD, I wait for you; you will answer, Lord my God.
For I said, “Let them not gloat over me—those who taunt me when my foot slips.”16For I said, "Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my feet slip."
For I am ready to fall, and my pain is ever with me.17For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me.
Yes, I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin.18I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin.
Many are my enemies without cause, and many hate me without reason.19Many have become my enemies without cause; those who hate me without reason are numerous.
Those who repay my good with evil attack me for pursuing the good.20Those who repay my good with evil lodge accusations against me, though I seek only to do what is good.
Do not forsake me, O LORD; be not far from me, O my God.21LORD, do not forsake me; do not be far from me, my God.
Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior.22Come quickly to help me, my Lord and my Savior.
