Berean Standard Bible | New Living Translation |
For the choirmaster. Of David. In the LORD I take refuge. How then can you say to me: “Flee like a bird to your mountain! | 1I trust in the LORD for protection. So why do you say to me, “Fly like a bird to the mountains for safety! |
For behold, the wicked bend their bows. They set their arrow on the string to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart. | 2The wicked are stringing their bows and fitting their arrows on the bowstrings. They shoot from the shadows at those whose hearts are right. |
If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” | 3The foundations of law and order have collapsed. What can the righteous do?” |
The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD is on His heavenly throne. His eyes are watching closely; they examine the sons of men. | 4But the LORD is in his holy Temple; the LORD still rules from heaven. He watches everyone closely, examining every person on earth. |
The LORD tests the righteous and the wicked; His soul hates the lover of violence. | 5The LORD examines both the righteous and the wicked. He hates those who love violence. |
On the wicked He will rain down fiery coals and sulfur; a scorching wind will be their portion. | 6He will rain down blazing coals and burning sulfur on the wicked, punishing them with scorching winds. |
For the LORD is righteous; He loves justice. The upright will see His face. | 7For the righteous LORD loves justice. The virtuous will see his face. |
