Of Solomon. Endow the king with Your justice, O God, and the son of the king with Your righteousness. | 1Give your love of justice to the king, O God, and righteousness to the king’s son. |
May he judge Your people with righteousness and Your afflicted with justice. | 2Help him judge your people in the right way; let the poor always be treated fairly. |
May the mountains bring peace to the people, and the hills bring righteousness. | 3May the mountains yield prosperity for all, and may the hills be fruitful. |
May he vindicate the afflicted among the people; may he save the children of the needy and crush the oppressor. | 4Help him to defend the poor, to rescue the children of the needy, and to crush their oppressors. |
May they fear him as long as the sun shines, as long as the moon remains, through all generations. | 5May they fear you as long as the sun shines, as long as the moon remains in the sky. Yes, forever! |
May he be like rain that falls on freshly cut grass, like spring showers that water the earth. | 6May the king’s rule be refreshing like spring rain on freshly cut grass, like the showers that water the earth. |
May the righteous flourish in his days and prosperity abound, until the moon is no more. | 7May all the godly flourish during his reign. May there be abundant prosperity until the moon is no more. |
May he rule from sea to sea, and from the Euphrates to the ends of the earth. | 8May he reign from sea to sea, and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth. |
May the nomads bow before him, and his enemies lick the dust. | 9Desert nomads will bow before him; his enemies will fall before him in the dust. |
May the kings of Tarshish and distant shores bring tribute; may the kings of Sheba and Seba offer gifts. | 10The western kings of Tarshish and other distant lands will bring him tribute. The eastern kings of Sheba and Seba will bring him gifts. |
May all kings bow down to him and all nations serve him. | 11All kings will bow before him, and all nations will serve him. |
For he will deliver the needy who cry out and the afflicted who have no helper. | 12He will rescue the poor when they cry to him; he will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them. |
He will take pity on the poor and needy and save the lives of the oppressed. | 13He feels pity for the weak and the needy, and he will rescue them. |
He will redeem them from oppression and violence, for their blood is precious in his sight. | 14He will redeem them from oppression and violence, for their lives are precious to him. |
Long may he live! May gold from Sheba be given him. May people ever pray for him; may they bless him all day long. | 15Long live the king! May the gold of Sheba be given to him. May the people always pray for him and bless him all day long. |
May there be an abundance of grain in the land; may it sway atop the hills. May its fruit trees flourish like the forests of Lebanon, and its people like the grass of the field. | 16May there be abundant grain throughout the land, flourishing even on the hilltops. May the fruit trees flourish like the trees of Lebanon, and may the people thrive like grass in a field. |
May his name endure forever; may his name continue as long as the sun shines. In him may all nations be blessed; may they call him blessed. | 17May the king’s name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun shines. May all nations be blessed through him and bring him praise. |
Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds. | 18Praise the LORD God, the God of Israel, who alone does such wonderful things. |
