Blessed be the LORD, my rock who trains my hands for battle and my fingers for warfare. | 1By David. The LORD, my protector, deserves praise--the one who trains my hands for battle, and my fingers for war, |
He is my faithful love and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer. He is my shield, and I take refuge in him; he subdues my people under me. | 2who loves me and is my stronghold, my refuge and my deliverer, my shield and the one in whom I take shelter, who makes nations submit to me. |
LORD, what is a human that you care for him, a son of man that you think of him? | 3O LORD, of what importance is the human race, that you should notice them? Of what importance is mankind, that you should be concerned about them? |
A human is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow. | 4People are like a vapor, their days like a shadow that disappears. |
LORD, part your heavens and come down. Touch the mountains, and they will smoke. | 5O LORD, make the sky sink and come down! Touch the mountains and make them smolder! |
Flash your lightning and scatter the foe; shoot your arrows and rout them. | 6Hurl lightning bolts and scatter them! Shoot your arrows and rout them! |
Reach down from on high; rescue me from deep water, and set me free from the grasp of foreigners | 7Reach down from above! Grab me and rescue me from the surging water, from the power of foreigners, |
whose mouths speak lies, whose right hands are deceptive. | 8who speak lies, and make false promises. |
God, I will sing a new song to you; I will play on a ten-stringed harp for you-- | 9O God, I will sing a new song to you! Accompanied by a ten-stringed instrument, I will sing praises to you, |
the one who gives victory to kings, who frees his servant David from the deadly sword. | 10the one who delivers kings, and rescued David his servant from a deadly sword. |
Set me free and rescue me from foreigners whose mouths speak lies, whose right hands are deceptive. | 11Grab me and rescue me from the power of foreigners, who speak lies, and make false promises. |
Then our sons will be like plants nurtured in their youth, our daughters, like corner pillars that are carved in the palace style. | 12Then our sons will be like plants, that quickly grow to full size. Our daughters will be like corner pillars, carved like those in a palace. |
Our storehouses will be full, supplying all kinds of produce; our flocks will increase by thousands and tens of thousands in our open fields. | 13Our storehouses will be full, providing all kinds of food. Our sheep will multiply by the thousands and fill our pastures. |
Our cattle will be well fed. There will be no breach in the walls, no going into captivity, and no cry of lament in our public squares. | 14Our cattle will be weighted down with produce. No one will break through our walls, no one will be taken captive, and there will be no terrified cries in our city squares. |
Happy are the people with such blessings. Happy are the people whose God is the LORD. | 15How blessed are the people who experience these things! How blessed are the people whose God is the LORD! |
