LORD, I seek refuge in you; let me never be disgraced. Save me by your righteousness. | 1For the music director; a psalm of David. In you, O LORD, I have taken shelter! Never let me be humiliated! Vindicate me by rescuing me! |
Listen closely to me; rescue me quickly. Be a rock of refuge for me, a mountain fortress to save me. | 2Listen to me! Quickly deliver me! Be my protector and refuge, a stronghold where I can be safe! |
For you are my rock and my fortress; you lead and guide me for your name's sake. | 3For you are my high ridge and my stronghold; for the sake of your own reputation you lead me and guide me. |
You will free me from the net that is secretly set for me, for you are my refuge. | 4You will free me from the net they hid for me, for you are my place of refuge. |
Into your hand I entrust my spirit; you have redeemed me, LORD, God of truth. | 5Into your hand I entrust my life; you will rescue me, O LORD, the faithful God. |
I hate those who are devoted to worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD. | 6I hate those who serve worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD. |
I will rejoice and be glad in your faithful love because you have seen my affliction. You know the troubles of my soul | 7I will be happy and rejoice in your faithfulness, because you notice my pain and you are aware of how distressed I am. |
and have not handed me over to the enemy. You have set my feet in a spacious place. | 8You do not deliver me over to the power of the enemy; you enable me to stand in a wide open place. |
Be gracious to me, LORD, because I am in distress; my eyes are worn out from frustration--my whole being as well. | 9Have mercy on me, for I am in distress! My eyes grow dim from suffering. I have lost my strength. |
Indeed, my life is consumed with grief and my years with groaning; my strength has failed because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away. | 10For my life nears its end in pain; my years draw to a close as I groan. My strength fails me because of my sin, and my bones become brittle. |
I am ridiculed by all my adversaries and even by my neighbors. I am dreaded by my acquaintances; those who see me in the street run from me. | 11Because of all my enemies, people disdain me; my neighbors are appalled by my suffering--those who know me are horrified by my condition; those who see me in the street run away from me. |
I am forgotten: gone from memory like a dead person--like broken pottery. | 12I am forgotten, like a dead man no one thinks about; I am regarded as worthless, like a broken jar. |
I have heard the gossip of many; terror is on every side. When they conspired against me, they plotted to take my life. | 13For I hear what so many are saying, the terrifying news that comes from every direction. When they plot together against me, they figure out how they can take my life. |
But I trust in you, LORD; I say, "You are my God." | 14But I trust in you, O LORD! I declare, "You are my God!" |
The course of my life is in your power; rescue me from the power of my enemies and from my persecutors. | 15You determine my destiny! Rescue me from the power of my enemies and those who chase me. |
Make your face shine on your servant; save me by your faithful love. | 16Smile on your servant! Deliver me because of your faithfulness! |
LORD, do not let me be disgraced when I call on you. Let the wicked be disgraced; let them be quiet in Sheol. | 17O LORD, do not let me be humiliated, for I call out to you! May evil men be humiliated! May they go wailing to the grave! |
Let lying lips that arrogantly speak against the righteous in proud contempt be silenced. | 18May lying lips be silenced--lips that speak defiantly against the innocent with arrogance and contempt! |
How great is your goodness that you have stored up for those who fear you and accomplished in the sight of everyone for those who take refuge in you. | 19How great is your favor, which you store up for your loyal followers! In plain sight of everyone you bestow it on those who take shelter in you. |
You hide them in the protection of your presence; you conceal them in a shelter from human schemes, from quarrelsome tongues. | 20You hide them with you, where they are safe from the attacks of men; you conceal them in a shelter, where they are safe from slanderous attacks. |
Blessed be the LORD, for he has wondrously shown his faithful love to me in a city under siege. | 21The LORD deserves praise for he demonstrated his amazing faithfulness to me when I was besieged by enemies. |
In my alarm I said, "I am cut off from your sight." But you heard the sound of my pleading when I cried to you for help. | 22I jumped to conclusions and said, "I am cut off from your presence!" But you heard my plea for mercy when I cried out to you for help. |
Love the LORD, all his faithful ones. The LORD protects the loyal, but fully repays the arrogant. | 23Love the LORD, all you faithful followers of his! The LORD protects those who have integrity, but he pays back in full the one who acts arrogantly. |
Be strong, and let your heart be courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD. | 24Be strong and confident, all you who wait on the LORD! |
