Listen to my words, LORD; consider my sighing. | 1For the music director, to be accompanied by wind instruments; a psalm of David. Listen to what I say, LORD! Carefully consider my complaint! |
Pay attention to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for I pray to you. | 2Pay attention to my cry for help, my king and my God, for I am praying to you! |
In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I plead my case to you and watch expectantly. | 3LORD, in the morning you will hear me; in the morning I will present my case to you and then wait expectantly for an answer. |
For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil cannot dwell with you. | 4Certainly you are not a God who approves of evil; evil people cannot dwell with you. |
The boastful cannot stand in your sight; you hate all evildoers. | 5Arrogant people cannot stand in your presence; you hate all who behave wickedly. |
You destroy those who tell lies; the LORD abhors violent and treacherous people. | 6You destroy liars; the LORD despises violent and deceitful people. |
But I enter your house by the abundance of your faithful love; I bow down toward your holy temple in reverential awe of you. | 7But as for me, because of your great faithfulness I will enter your house; I will bow down toward your holy temple as I worship you. |
LORD, lead me in your righteousness because of my adversaries; make your way straight before me. | 8LORD, lead me in your righteousness because of those who wait to ambush me, remove the obstacles in the way in which you are guiding me! |
For there is nothing reliable in what they say; destruction is within them; their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongues. | 9For they do not speak the truth; their stomachs are like the place of destruction, their throats like an open grave, their tongues like a steep slope leading into it. |
Punish them, God; let them fall by their own schemes. Drive them out because of their many crimes, for they rebel against you. | 10Condemn them, O God! May their own schemes be their downfall! Drive them away because of their many acts of insurrection, for they have rebelled against you. |
But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them shout for joy forever. May you shelter them, and may those who love your name boast about you. | 11But may all who take shelter in you be happy! May they continually shout for joy! Shelter them so that those who are loyal to you may rejoice! |
For you, LORD, bless the righteous one; you surround him with favor like a shield. | 12Certainly you reward the godly, LORD. Like a shield you protect them in your good favor. |
