1Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised in the city of our God! His holy mountain, | 1Great is the LORD! For he is to be praised greatly, even in the city of our God, his holy mountain. |
2beautiful in elevation, is the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion, in the far north, the city of the great King. | 2Beautifully situated, the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion towards the north, the city of the great King. |
3Within her citadels God has made himself known as a fortress. | 3Within her citadels God is known as a place of refuge. |
4For behold, the kings assembled; they came on together. | 4Behold, when the kings assembled together, when they traveled together, |
5As soon as they saw it, they were astounded; they were in panic; they took to flight. | 5they looked and were awestruck; they became afraid and ran away. |
6Trembling took hold of them there, anguish as of a woman in labor. | 6Trembling seized them there, pains like those of a woman in labor, |

9We have thought on your steadfast love, O God, in the midst of your temple. | 9God, we have meditated on your gracious love in the midst of your Temple. |
10As your name, O God, so your praise reaches to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is filled with righteousness. | 10God, according to your name, so is your praise to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is filled with righteousness. |
11Let Mount Zion be glad! Let the daughters of Judah rejoice because of your judgments! | 11Mount Zion will be glad; the towns of Judah will rejoice because of your judgments. |
12Walk about Zion, go around her, number her towers, | 12March around Zion; encircle her; count her towers. |
13consider well her ramparts, go through her citadels, that you may tell the next generation | 13Take note of her ramparts; investigate her citadels; that you may speak about them to the next generation. |
14that this is God, our God forever and ever. He will guide us forever. | 14For this God is our God forever and ever. He will guide us until death. |
