Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised in the city of our God! His holy mountain, | 1A Song and Psalm for the sons of Korah. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. |
beautiful in elevation, is the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion, in the far north, the city of the great King. | 2Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. |
Within her citadels God has made himself known as a fortress. | 3God is known in her palaces for a refuge. |
For behold, the kings assembled; they came on together. | 4For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together. |
As soon as they saw it, they were astounded; they were in panic; they took to flight. | 5They saw it, and so they marvelled; they were troubled, and hasted away. |
Trembling took hold of them there, anguish as of a woman in labor. | 6Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail. |
By the east wind you shattered the ships of Tarshish. | 7Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind. |
As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God, which God will establish forever. Selah | 8As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it for ever. Selah. |
We have thought on your steadfast love, O God, in the midst of your temple. | 9We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple. |
As your name, O God, so your praise reaches to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is filled with righteousness. | 10According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness. |
Let Mount Zion be glad! Let the daughters of Judah rejoice because of your judgments! | 11Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments. |
Walk about Zion, go around her, number her towers, | 12Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof. |
consider well her ramparts, go through her citadels, that you may tell the next generation | 13Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following. |
that this is God, our God forever and ever. He will guide us forever. | 14For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death. |
