English Standard Version | NET Bible |
Blessed is the one who considers the poor! In the day of trouble the LORD delivers him; | 1For the music director; a psalm of David. How blessed is the one who treats the poor properly! When trouble comes, the LORD delivers him. |
the LORD protects him and keeps him alive; he is called blessed in the land; you do not give him up to the will of his enemies. | 2May the LORD protect him and save his life! May he be blessed in the land! Do not turn him over to his enemies! |
The LORD sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health. | 3The LORD supports him on his sickbed; you completely heal him from his illness. |
As for me, I said, “O LORD, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against you!” | 4As for me, I said: "O LORD, have mercy on me! Heal me, for I have sinned against you! |
My enemies say of me in malice, “When will he die, and his name perish?” | 5My enemies ask this cruel question about me, 'When will he finally die and be forgotten?' |
And when one comes to see me, he utters empty words, while his heart gathers iniquity; when he goes out, he tells it abroad. | 6When someone comes to visit, he pretends to be friendly; he thinks of ways to defame me, and when he leaves he slanders me. |
All who hate me whisper together about me; they imagine the worst for me. | 7All who hate me whisper insults about me to one another; they plan ways to harm me. |
They say, “A deadly thing is poured out on him; he will not rise again from where he lies.” | 8They say, 'An awful disease overwhelms him, and now that he is bed-ridden he will never recover.' |
Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me. | 9Even my close friend whom I trusted, he who shared meals with me, has turned against me. |
But you, O LORD, be gracious to me, and raise me up, that I may repay them! | 10As for you, O LORD, have mercy on me and raise me up, so I can pay them back!" |
By this I know that you delight in me: my enemy will not shout in triumph over me. | 11By this I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me. |
But you have upheld me because of my integrity, and set me in your presence forever. | 12As for me, you uphold me because of my integrity; you allow me permanent access to your presence. |
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting! Amen and Amen. | 13The LORD God of Israel deserves praise in the future and forevermore! We agree! We agree! |
