 | 1For the choir director. A Davidic psalm. The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky proclaims the work of His hands. | 1The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. |
| 2Day after day they pour out speech; night after night they communicate knowledge. | 2Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. |
| 3There is no speech; there are no words; their voice is not heard. | 3They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. |
| 4Their message has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens He has pitched a tent for the sun. | 4Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun. |
| 5It is like a groom coming from the bridal chamber; it rejoices like an athlete running a course. | 5It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding. It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race. |
| 6It rises from one end of the heavens and circles to their other end; nothing is hidden from its heat. | 6The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat. |
| 7The instruction of the LORD is perfect, renewing one's life; the testimony of the LORD is trustworthy, making the inexperienced wise. | 7The instructions of the LORD are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. |
| 8The precepts of the LORD are right, making the heart glad; the command of the LORD is radiant, making the eyes light up. | 8The commandments of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are clear, giving insight for living. |
| 9The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the LORD are reliable and altogether righteous. | 9Reverence for the LORD is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the LORD are true; each one is fair. |
| 10They are more desirable than gold-- than an abundance of pure gold; and sweeter than honey, which comes from the honeycomb. | 10They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. |
| 11In addition, Your servant is warned by them; there is great reward in keeping them. | 11They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them. |
| 12Who perceives his unintentional sins? Cleanse me from my hidden faults. | 12How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. |
| 13Moreover, keep Your servant from willful sins; do not let them rule over me. Then I will be innocent and cleansed from blatant rebellion. | 13Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin. |
| 14May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, LORD, my rock and my Redeemer. | 14May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. |
