International Standard VersionEnglish Standard Version
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus the Messiah.1Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace by which we have been established, and we boast because of our hope in God's glory. 2Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 3Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,
endurance produces character, and character produces hope. 4and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,
Now this hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.5and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
For at just the right time, while we were still powerless, the Messiah died for the ungodly. 6For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
For it is rare for anyone to die for a righteous person, though somebody might be brave enough to die for a good person. 7For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—
But God demonstrates his love for us by the fact that the Messiah died for us while we were still sinners.8but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Now that we have been justified by his blood, how much more will we be saved from wrath through him! 9Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.
For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life! 10For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.
Not only that, but we also continue to boast about God through our Lord Jesus the Messiah, through whom we have now been reconciled.11More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
Just as sin entered the world through one man, and death resulted from sin, therefore everyone dies, because everyone has sinned. 12Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—
Certainly sin was in the world before the Law was given, but no record of sin is kept when there is no Law. 13for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law.
Nevertheless, death ruled from the time of Adam to Moses, even over those who did not sin in the same way Adam did when he disobeyed. He is a foreshadowing of the one who would come.14Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come.
But God's free gift is not like Adam's offense. For if many people died as the result of one man's offense, how much more have God's grace and the free gift given through the kindness of one man, Jesus the Messiah, been showered on many people! 15But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many.
Nor can the free gift be compared to what came through the man who sinned. For the sentence that followed one man's offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift brought justification, even after many offenses. 16And the free gift is not like the result of that one man’s sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought justification.
For if, through one man, death ruled because of that man's offense, how much more will those who receive such overflowing grace and the gift of righteousness rule in life because of one man, Jesus the Messiah! 17For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.
Consequently, just as one offense resulted in condemnation for everyone, so one act of righteousness results in justification and life for everyone. 18Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men.
For just as through one man's disobedience many people were made sinners, so also through one man's obedience many people will be made righteous. 19For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.
Now the Law crept in so that the offense would increase. But where sin increased, grace increased even more, 20Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more,
so that, just as sin ruled by bringing death, so also grace might rule by bringing justification that results in eternal life through Jesus the Messiah, our Lord.21so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
